Hard to believe now that I almost didn't buy this. It pays to ignore the packaging.
A bold blackish looking beer. Superficially appears like a porter though it obviously isn't. The raw resiny nose was somewhat intoxicating and the head billowing and frothy. Body was big and firm and not ridiculously heavy though still totally dominant and demanding. Bizarrely lusciously lewd to taste. Would never have believed the degree of balance here either.
That was a hell of a thing.

This has to be the best black IPA on the planet. Great dark appearance! The smell of roasted malts is phenomenal. Characteristically over hopped like many Stone beers but the Taste is a perfect blend of malt and hops. This could be my favorite Stone beer, and they have a lot of great ones!
