Appearance: The pour is black with brunt amber highlights and a frothy tan head.
Smell: The nose is all IPA. Grapefruit, tangerine, and pine aromas aren't aggressive, but they dominate anything else.
Taste: The flavor profile is hoppy up front. Citrus and pine lead into a earthy mid-palate. As the beer warms and lingers in my mouth, it develops a French roast coffee undertone that lingers through the finish.
Mouthfeel: It's on the lighter side of medium-bodied with soft carbonation.
Drinkability: I'm glad I let this one sit awhile. It had been one dimensionally big, now it's a solid hoppy black IPA... or whatever you'd call it. For an innovative, some might call it a novelty style, this isn't particularly different. It's not that I don't enjoy the beer, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't think twice before calling it an IPA in a blind taste test where I didn't know to look for the roasted malt.

A: Pours dark black with medium carbonation that creates a nice tan head as well as some decent lacing. Looks like what you would expect from a stout.
S: The smell is fantastic! Lots of earthy and fruity hops (grapefruit and citrus) as well as a hint of that dark (almost molasses) malt aroma.
T: This is where the beer shines... Very bitter but not so much as to deter you from drinking it. Earthy, floral, and fruity hops show through the roasted malt and peach flavor of the beer. Stone did an amazing job creating a unique style that blends together all the flavors so nicely. Very flavorful!
M: Mouthfeel is perfect. Medium to full body, creamy but very drinkable. The finish isn't dry and those flavors stick to your tastebuds for a while after you sip. Carbonation is spot on with the flavor.
O: Overall this is probably my favorite beer of the ones I've tried so far. Definitely one that you can try more than once and enjoy just as much, if not more, as the last time. Stone has made a beer that somehow has a strong and intense flavor that makes you wish you had another bottle when you're done!
