On tap at the Stone Brewery in Escondido, CA.
A: Poured a dark, opaque black in color with a nice half inch of thick, creamy off-white head atop that lasts for a long time and leaves tons of lacing around the glass as you drink.
S: Tons of pine and citrus hops, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and alcohol. Potently potable!
T: Dense on the palate with predominant notes of pine hops, roasted malts and coffee with some dark chocolate. Finishes dry with lingering hop bitterness. As advertised in the aroma, this one packs a huge hop punch (like all Stone brews), though it remains fairly balanced without becoming overly bitter.
M: Pretty thick and heavily bodied with ample carbonation and an oily, syrupy and chewy quality on the tongue. A good amount of substance for the style without being overly thick and remaining fairly drinkable.
O: Lots of flavor and a high dosage of hops are sure to make this a pleaser. Very enjoyable on tap or in the bottle, though I would say on tap the hops come out a bit more and it tasted a lot more fresh and poignant. Very enjoyable, but I don't think I could drink more than one as it fills you up quickly. If you like dark, roasted brews and are a fan of hops, this one is for you. Cheers!

Served from 22 oz. bottle into tulip glass.
A - Body is a rich, rosewood-color, with a foamy ivory head forming on top.
S - Pine resin, grapefruit, and hemp dominate. Some hints of mint and smoke.
T - A resin bomb for sure. Sticky hop flavors including pine, hemp, and grapefruit bombard the palate. The malt have tones of raisins and toast. The finish is all piney bitterness and a whiff of smoke.
M - The hop oils almost give the beer a bit of a sticky mouthfeel. The body is a bit hefty and the carbonation is fairly mild.
O - Very good black IPA. A lot more dank, piney flavors than most in the style, but the high ABV and smokey malt flavors make it work.
