Dark, dark reddish-brown. Nearly black. Nearly opaque, once it's in the goblet. Head doesn't last, but a cappucino-colored lace hangs out on top and forms a lovely halo. An attractive beer. Some loose-weave lacing.
Tons of citrusy hop character in the nose. Faint roasted malt in the background, but I really have to search for it. Smells pretty much like a good DIPA, but doesn't reach "wow" levels.
Basically, it's a mindfuck -- it doesn't *look* like a DIPA, but it *tastes* like a DIPA. It's good, but I was hoping for the roasted malt to come out a bit more. It's present right when the beer first hits my tongue, but then the powerful hop flavors overwhelm it, sending the poor malts screaming for the hills. Hop character is mostly citrusy, bitter grapefruit with some oily pine involved as well. A tiny bit of raisin character and a little more roastiness comes out as it warms. Still, I would, indeed, call this a black DIPA.
The mouthfeel is outstanding. It's fairly thick, and of course oily from all the hops, but creamy nonetheless.
This is drinkable, but it is also powerful.

A: Pours dark black with medium carbonation that creates a nice tan head as well as some decent lacing. Looks like what you would expect from a stout.
S: The smell is fantastic! Lots of earthy and fruity hops (grapefruit and citrus) as well as a hint of that dark (almost molasses) malt aroma.
T: This is where the beer shines... Very bitter but not so much as to deter you from drinking it. Earthy, floral, and fruity hops show through the roasted malt and peach flavor of the beer. Stone did an amazing job creating a unique style that blends together all the flavors so nicely. Very flavorful!
M: Mouthfeel is perfect. Medium to full body, creamy but very drinkable. The finish isn't dry and those flavors stick to your tastebuds for a while after you sip. Carbonation is spot on with the flavor.
O: Overall this is probably my favorite beer of the ones I've tried so far. Definitely one that you can try more than once and enjoy just as much, if not more, as the last time. Stone has made a beer that somehow has a strong and intense flavor that makes you wish you had another bottle when you're done!
