Brought home a growler from Stone Brewery. Opened a week after it was bottled.
A - Very dark brown. small brown head that dissipates quickly, leaving a few scattered bubbles. almost no lace.
S - Earthy, coffee, a bit grassy, characteristic stone hop smell.
T - A lot of different flavors at once. The sweetness and floralness of the hops is wonderfully balanced by a dark, malty flavor. Kind of a "sugar with your coffee" flavor.Toasty aftertaste with some lingering hop bitterness.
M - Almost no carbonation - not sure if this is typical. Maybe a bad seal on the growler? The flavor is very present because of the low carbonation.
D - Very smooth. Almost slides down the throat, but I have to let it linger in the mouth each sip to savor the flavor.
We had this last year at Stone, and it seemed more vibrant then. Still, a great beer with a very interesting mix of flavors.
Serving type: growler
