Had 20oz of this at Mugs Alehouse in Williamsburg after Pies 'n' Thighs. It was dry hopped with Amarillo.

Almost pitch black with a thick, luscious tan head. Great sticking power on the head, it never went away. The smell is great, with tons of spicy hops bursting through the coffee-like malt backing. The flavor is fantastic as well, giving off tons of complex malt flavor, with those citrus-like bitter and peppery spice notes that are unique to the Amarillo. So good. Kinda snuck up on me though. One flaw: the hops could meld better into the beer.

Had an on-tap "shorty" at the Yard House in San Antonio, TX.

Dark black with a little light coming from the edges. 1/2 inch brown fluffy head. Decent lacing down the sides.

Big hops nose. Grapefruit/citrus. Malty, caramel, chocolate sweetness in the background.

Flavour matches the aroma. Powerful hops balanced out by rich chocolate, roasty malts.

Pretty oily mouthfeel with light carbonation but the hops can be a little scouring on the tongue.

My first Black IPA. Loved every minute of it. Well worth trying.

22 oz bomber served in a pint glass, the artwork is awesome!

A - Dark obsidian with little light on edges with a 2 finger fluffy ecru head with excellent retention and good lacing.

S - Rich pungent malt with molasses, raisins, a bit of floral hops and some brown sugar.

T - Very richly sweet malt and molasses sugar with dark fruits to follow then very well complementing floral and piney hops with a crisp bitter finish. A nice bit of EtOH throughout.

M - Full body, moderate carbonation, chewy, creamy.

O - Such a neat style, one of the first I've tried and I really like the black ipas. This is a standout beer and one of my favorite from Stone. This was my sublimely awesome 100th review!!!!
