Throughout our history, we’ve built a (fairly deserved) reputation for being obsessed with massively hoppy IPAs. And this groundbreaking creation you see before you is largely responsible for that legacy. Did you know that Stone Ruination IPA was the first year-round, brewed-and- bottled West Coast Double IPA on the planet? True story. As the technology and techniques for maximizing hoppy goodness evolved over the years, so too did this beer. Yet we still look back fondly on the impression it left on the palates of many. As a tribute to its roots, we’re bringing it back for a limited time in its original old school form– the quintessential representation of a West Coast Double IPA. 8.2% ABV, 100+ IBU

This awesome DIPA pours golden to orange with a small white head that lasts. Good lace is left on the sides of the glass.
Ruination has a wonderfully hoppy/floral/perfumy aroma.
The flavor is strong and hoppy with mellow malty notes behind and follwed with a bitterness that rests in the back of the mouth.
This very hoppy brew bubbles throughout the mouth... you could almost feel the hops... and again the bitterness is left.
This is the beer that really got me into hop bitterness and flavor.
This is truly a great DIPA!

Clear copper appearance with a large white head and some serious lacing. Big citrusy, piney aroma, with softer fruit becoming more pronounced as it settled back to room temperature. I know there’s some malt in there, but the balance was predominantly hoppy. A tiny bit of sweetness showed up near the finish. Medium-to-full bodied mouthfeel that was surprisingly smooth given the intense bitterness.

12 ounce can poured into a Tulip.
Canned 1/17/24

L: Clear gold pour shows tiny slow rising bubbles, 1" white head, dense rocky foam is fairly persistent, leaves a bit of lace.
S: Fruity and resinous hops, some pine and hints of bread grain malt come later.
T: Opens with piney hops, aggressive bitterness builds to the finish, closes with zesty orange peel bitterness, a caramel malt foundation lurks beneath the massive hop flavor.
F: Medium-weight body opens crisp with an underlying softness that becomes creamy later in the glass.
O: Super hoppy and bitter as expected, serious West Coast Double.

Pours a nice, bright gold with about a finger of head that goes pretty fast. The smell is pine, grapefruit, and some heat. The taste is like licking a cut grapefruit with good bitterness, malty, hefty, piney, and maybe a little more nuance than the original with some peach and orange thrown in. I never drank the original super fresh except maybe on tap but this is superb and is for people that really love bitter IPA’s, and I do, cheers!

Ruination is a clean malty looking brew and has a nice fragrant head. Lacing is pretty and the taste is strong. The bitterness lingers on the tongue. A rich, strong IPA that would need some acquired taste. From a 32 ounce crowler my buddy brought me yesterday from What’s On Tap.

Single purchased from Trader Joe’s in Oceanside,CA.
Pours a brilliantly clear orange golden with scant white head (though did pour slowly).
Aroma is piney, citrus, with some floral notes as it warmed - a bit earthy and dank.
Taste hits the palate with a pale malt sweetness that quickly succumbs to the hop explosion of pine, grapefruit peel, and an aggressively earthy bitterness.
Full coating mouthfeel with moderate carbonation and an earthy and piney bitterness that lingers forever.

Classic west coast ipa from Stone and it delivers. I swear I reviewed this beer before when I had it in bottles but it’s 2024 and now in cans and better than ever. Great smell when opening the can and mouthfeel is fantastic. Smooth drinking - you’ll never know that this is an imperial ipa. Alcohol is hidden and easy to drink. I might need another six pack!

Just tried the new 2024 release of Ruination. Poured into a glass from the gold can. Color is bright and clear golden yellow with a very thin white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma is clean and not noticeably floral. This leads me to believe it is not the OG recipe. The taste is also not floral but pleasantly bitter. My memory of previous Ruinations is a more earthy bitterness with considerably more on the nose. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I managed to snag three sixers of the new release. It is definitely a double IPA worth the name and I will likely pick up a couple more. This is a well executed albeit one dimensional IPA.

From a three-week-old can, pours a brilliantly clear deep gold. Smell is initially very floral, transitioning to citrus and resinous pine. Taste is complexly fruity and dank, with a delicious, bracing bitterness. I love this beer.

An OG IPA, slightly modified from the days of 7.7 ABV. Cans and bottles don't do this beer any favors. On tap is where it's at to really capture the flavor.

Look: It pours golden and clear. It has a white head with very good retention.

Smell: There are some herbal notes with some toffee and citrus.

Taste: There are citrus flavors with pine and herbal notes. It has low toffee notes.

Feel: It has a medium body with a bit of slickness on the tongue. It has a mildly bitter finish.

Overall, there are some nice hop flavors with the malts being well into the background.

Slightly hazy, medium amber, white head recedes to a cap, some lacing; interesting taste, somewhat bitter, nice character; good mouthfeel; from Stone’s 12 Days of IPA, at Christmas time. Good.
