A very powerful beer, as is expected from Stone. Instead of hops, the theory is that the bitterness will come from the bitter chocolate used in the brewing process. And while this isn't nearly as bitter as most of Stone's offerings, it is nevertheless very tasty. The color is a deep black; no light shines through. Taste is very malty and chocolatey. No room for nuance here, which is what I love so much about Stone. A deviation from the norm for this brewery, but no less worthy of praise than, say, Arrogant Bastard or Ruination.
