Picked this up recently from Total Wine in West Orange, having never tired this before. As much as I love Stone's offerings, I was hoping that this would stand out a bit from them and thankfully, it did. It was not as strong, hoppy, or typical as their other IPA's and this was much more mellow to drink. The alcohol was subdued quite a bit and without a doubt, this would be the one beer of theirs that I wish came in six-packs instead of the 22 oz. bottles, since I wanted to have another in one sitting!

The pour to this was nice, with a copper hue, good head, and just enough lacing to be seen. Not a lot of aroma to this but the yeast made itself known both in the taste and in the carbonation. The hop burn and bitterness weren't high here, as the oily mouthfeel and Belgian characteristics were stronger than I anticipated. There have been very few beers that I've had where the Belgian notes outweighed the IPA characteristics, but this was certainly one of them. Some wetness and pine were present underneath everything else, but this was a Belgian beer first and foremost in taste and body.

This wasn't that strong either, even though there was enough alcohol in this to be felt. Thankfully, this was different than anything I've had before while still retaining the West Coast hops and body that one would expect from a Stone beer. Add in an easygoing nature and a nice amount of yeast and this beer's a winner. I can't wait to go it another go!

Appearance: Golden with good foam.

Smell: Lots of pine and cinnamon...very Christmasy. Excellent spice combination that you wouldn't think would work well in the summer but it does.

Taste/Mouthfeel: More pine and cinnamon. Again, a surprisingly excellent combination for the season. Mouthfeel is very crisp.

Overall Drinkability: An excellent Belgian. Very refreshing as well.
