Pours a very clear light amber with a smallish white head that dissipates into a film. This is probably the clearest Tripel I have ever consumed. Aroma is medium sweet with banana, citrus, belgian yeast and light carmalized malt. Flavor is wheaty, doughy, cirurs and sweetness derived from candi sugar. Medium to full bodied, very Long citric bitter finish.

Serving date: 2009-03-17. Served in tulip. Best before: 2010-10-22.

A: Golden yellow, somewhat cloudy. 3 finger off-white, slightly uneven and airy head that settles a little too fast. Minimal lacings.

S: A fresh smell with a nice blend of sweet and semi-tart aromas. Plenty of fruit (clementine, banana). Some yeast, dry earth and just a hint of toffee.

T: Plenty of clean and distinct hop flavors, mostly fresh fruity (grapefruit, clementine, banana, mango). Some hey, earth and tobacco. Very restrained yeast character. The malts (caramel-like) are also on the weak side. A faint note of bubblegum. The finish is rather bitter and dry, and has a slight alcoholic twang (spicy). Some pine-needles and planting soil.

M: Medium body, lighter than expected. The carbonation is somewhat lively and tickling.

D: This one came out a bit weird to me. Don't get me wrong, it's quite tasty, but is rather far away from ordinary tripel territory. It's distinct hop character (grapefruits, pine etc) makes it reminiscent of an American pale ale or IPA, rather than a tripel. In addition, most tripels boast way bigger yeast aromas than this one does. I like it when belgian style ales are not as clean and tidy as this one is.

On tap a the BA Belgian beer fest yesterday, and reviewed from notes. Pours very clear, lighter amber, long lasting near white head and then leaves plenty of nice looking lace behind. Nose for me was all about fresh fruits, Belgian spice/yeast. Another collaboration of Belgians and Americans and I found the results to be quite pleasurable. Plenty of lime, quinine, gin and yeasty interest adding to complexity. Hops lurk in the rear, resiny and astringent. Huge fan of Stone, and Belg/USA collabs. This one doesn't rise to the level of the heavy hitters of the style, but still well worth a try. Another beer I'd love to see available in bottles in the local area.

One of the selections for my "make your own six-pack" from Marty's in Newton. 12 oz bottle, 8.7% ABV. Collaboration beer between Stone, Mikkeller Brewing and Alesmith.

Pale golden color, minimal lacing. Belgian sweetness with a hoppiness. Smooth mouthfeel, with a bit of hoppy sting at the end. Interesting beer, glad I had the chance to try it, but one was probably enough. Wish I had a bomber of this to get a better idea of how I feel about it.

Thanks to Matt for sharing this beer at thirdeye11's recent tasting.

This is beer No. 1,400 for me. The beer pours a very clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma is citrus, Belgian yeast and hops. The flavor is citrus hops and Belgian yeast. Not very complex, but pretty tasty. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Opened 12 fluid ounce bottle, poured into Nonic glass.

Pours a nice creamy white head of 1" that holds a slow death. Brew is a mostly clear light amber with good bubbles in suspension.

Smells of malts and Belgian yeast. Light fruit aromas please the olfactory nerves. Taste follows through with nose and that typical "banana" taste that is common from Belgian yeast.

Mouth-feel is great: filling but not overwhelming. Bubbles seem a bit high at first, but subsequent taste are quite pleasant. Nice slow drink; I wish I'd have poured this in my Snifter.

Pours clear gold with a short white head. Spicy aroma of pine, pepper, caramel, and candied sugar. Smooth taste. Malt and hops up front, more peppery than citrus, with the trippel flavors shining through in the back. Bubblegum, lots of clove, some orange peel; altoghether a really nice beer.

12oz Bottle poured into a snifter.

First off, awesome bottle, awesome idea. Getting brewers to work together to make super beers is great.

Pours a cloudy golden color with basically no head. Had a nice sweet yeasty aroma, very pleasant for a tripel.

Taste is great! One of the cleanest Belgians I've had, it's not too spicy, which although is part of the style is not my favorite part. Nice and drinkable. Good kick at 8.7% but you really can't notice it.

Keep it up stone.

Poured into an Achel goblet.

Attractive hazy orange. Not much head. Smells of sweet fruits and yeast bread. Belgian candy sugar is on full display. Taste is nice and mellow, straightforward triple flavors. Lots of spicy yeast phenols. Warming alcohol/bitterness on the back end. Finishes dry, with a lingering warmth. Mouth is crisp, solid medium bodied beer. Drinkability is very nice, not abrasive like some heavier tripels.

Had this on-tap at the Brick Store in Atlanta.

Pours a clear orange-ish copper color with a one-finger white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top that leaves decent lacing.

Smells hoppy first and fruity second. Citrus and floral aromas joined by bananas and pears.

Tastes very good. Sweet light fruits kick things off, then the hops take over with mild citrus flavors and a clean bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's a bit thin but a good amount of grainy carbonation makes this go down smoothly.

Drinkability is good. This is a really tasty beer that goes down very easily. The hoppiness is not overdone and it's crisp.

Overall I was a fan of this beer. It's not as well-balanced as some of the higher rated Belgian IPA's on here such as a'Chouffe's, but the hops certainly didn't go overboard. This is worth a shot.

12oz. brown bottle poured into an oversized wine glass.

A: Pours a grapefruit rind yellowish orange. Maybe a fingers worth of white frothy head with decent retention. Good lacing.

S: Tons of fruity esters. Good dose of grapefruit along with pineapple, red grapes, lemon, and mango. Some spicy yeast and alcohol play in the back. A bit of soap like quality.

T/M: More of the big fruity notes. Yeast is very spicy with strong phenolic notes. Alcohol is definitely strong but tasty. Sweet malts with a healthy candi sugar backbone. Bitterness is assertive with added citrus to the fruits. Body is about medium with strong, lively carbonation.

D: 9.5% is up there but it's relatively easy drinking as I needed to pace myself. Very tasty and a good collaboration.

Served in a chalice at $7 plus tax

I think it was served a bit cold, so I let it warm up a tad. It was a colored as a darker pilsener with not much head. It smelled of pear, cider, some nutmeg of and even a little bit of pepper. The flavors of Belgian yeast and candy paired with the pear and cider characteristics. As it warmed the flavors intensified.

Appearance - Pale orange, thin white head with no retention, some lacing

Smell - Sweet malt, coriander? spice, noble hops. Smells great!

Taste - Delicious, sweetness balanced with the hops, no heat from the 8+ ABV

Mouthfeel - Despite it's lightness in color, this does not feel light on the mouth. Great carbonation.

Drinkability - Highly drinkable. Well balanced and tasty beer.

12 0z. bottle > mini snifter

A glowing godlen color with some orange hues in the middle with mild carbonation. a robust-looking thick-lacy white head iactive and bubbly, dissipates pretty fast.

The aroma has a very spicy yeast right up-front. Green veggies, slightly fruity, with red fruits, various spices and herbs, a mild heat tingle, big-bad-ass aroma.

The flavor has a light and crispy herbalized spicy yeast and hop up-front, big time herbs that mutates into a fruity hop, currents of red fruits ride in and then take a back seat to the big peppery yeast edge, yes, the yeast is very complex and gives this brew it's charm. The malt is light and crispy, just enough to keep the herbs and spices in-check. A nice, woody alcohol heat rides in but does not cut through th flavor or throws of the nice balance of flavor's.

I love this wonderful Belgian style, and it's always nice to see American (and co.) brewer's doing it right!

12 oz. bottle into a Brooklyn tulip split between four friends on my balcony. One of the "last hurrah" bottles of the night, as my wife and I are moving to New York in exactly one week from Virginia.

Appearance: Nice mildly hazy and cloudy darker yellow with hints of orange. Not much lace or retention at all that sticks around though.

Smell: Very clean and balanced, with big fruit esters going on, along with some banana, clove, pepper, and mild cream. Good, though I expected it to be more complex, or at least hoped.

Taste: Clean fruit estery backbone with an interestingly bitter hop profile, more earthy and root-like than citrus. Finish is nicely bitter, and though quality and good, it seems to be a bit one-note to me. Maybe some age, mellowing out the bitterness, will let some good flavors come to the surface that aren't here now?

Mouthfeel: Big and mildly syrupy, but it still seems a little water and not bursting with quality and full carbonation like good Tripels usually do for me.

Drinkability: A quality Tripel, but I guess I expected more, from both the collaboration and the around $5 price tag. I wonder what cellaring will do. Worth splitting with a friend or two to try it, but nothing I'd go out of my way to try again.

A thick mouthfeel on this one. The aroma is a bit boozy, yeasty, grainy, even beery (cheesy). A small but significant white head on a light brown coloured body. The taste is initially licorice with other spices behind it, in the finish I get bitterness and yeastiness, not too sweet. Quite a fine trippel. Found at Merchant's Warehouse Cleveland.

Poured from the 12oz bottle into a Duvel tulip glass. Body is light golden-orange hue, with just a touch of cloudiness. A small finger's worth of creamy white head reduces to just a thin ring after a minute or two.
Aroma of sweet pale malt and somewhat spicy hops, with notes of candi sugar, clover honey, and a touch of funky Belgian yeast. Palate is mildly sweet up front, with more candi sugar, honey, and very light fruit flavor (peach?). A subtle hoppy bitterness comes through mid-palate, before yielding again to the creamy sweetness of the malt and tangy yeast.
Body is creamy and nicely effervescent, quite lively on the tongue. A mild chalky character comes through every now and then, but is not particularly distracting. While not the most faithful interpretation of a Belgian tripel, it's still an interesting take on the style. A curious collaboration between two Americans and a Dane that makes me hope these types of partnerships continue in the future.

P: 12 oz. bottle with seemingly no "bottled on" date. Poured into a snifter.

A: A course and very creamy white 1 finger head. The beer itself is a golden orange color that is very clear.

S: A hint of citrus and a signature hop smell. But a robust alcohol fragrance. This one initially reminded me of an imperial IPA.

T: A tinge of citrus in the beginning but the hoppy flavors soon take over and lingers through to the finish. It even leaves a hoppy aftertaste in the mouth which seems to be a trademark of Stone breweries.

M: Light to medium body with medium carbonation

D: Seemed strong and a little too hoppy for a Belgian style tripel which killed the drinkability for me personally. Though, that's not at all a knock against this version of the tripel.

Appearance: This one pours a clear, light golden color. There's some nice, little chunks of sediment floating about that adds some character. The head is foamy and vanilla colored. It's about a finger and a half deep. Retention was pretty good, but a light coat of lace lined the glass.

Smell: The nose is sweet smelling and a little fruity initially. It features candy apple and pear fragrances. Light spices are notable, but unidentifiable (to this nose). Hops are a little citrusy and more prevalent than expected. It does have a nice yeasty aroma to it. Definitely Belgian in character. Malts are notable. Smells like mostly the pale variety. It is a little earthy and grainy. Alcohol is noted, but it's blended pretty well and presents itself as relatively mild.

Taste: This is a pretty well done Tripel. It is sweet and fruity up front. Candy apple and pear seem to be the primary elements here. Hops kick in and are mostly citric in charcter. They're not exactly bitter, but do liven the party. They are more vibrant than in most Belgian Tripels. It is a little spicy, but the spices play a more complementary role. I couldn't tell you exactly what spices are here. Suffice it to say they're well done. Pale malts add more sweetness to the mix. The Belgian yeast flavor is excellent and adds an element of authenticity. Alcohol is blended pretty well, but has a warming effect. I'll note here that my bottle lists the abv as 8.7%, rather than the 9.5% listed above. Finishes sweet and a little spicy.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability: It's medium bodied and has a really nice, smooth feel. Carbonation is dialed down just enough to give it a silky, creamy feel. Drinkability is good, but it does feel a little heavy and is best consumed at a tempered pace. At first I questioned the 12 oz. bottling, but it's clearly preferable to a 22 oz. or a 750 after trying it.

Wow. Stone, Alesmith, and Mikkeller brewing together. Frankly, I was hoping to be blown away by this beer, but it only attains "very good" status. I do like the hoppy character of this beer. Perhaps it couldn't be any other way considering the SoCal influence. But, at the end of the day, this one's just a step below some of the top Tripels out there. Nonetheless, it's always nice to kick back and enjoy a SoCal/Scandinavian treat. How often does that happen? I'm certainly glad I had the opportunity.

Slightly hazy bright golden color with a white head. Aroma of pale malt, yeast, citrus, green apple, and mild hops. Flavor is more of the same with light fruits and some west coast hops on the finish. Dry, crisp palate with medium body. Excellent tripel.

On tap at Stone. Poured into one of the tiny 8oz shaker glasses that I hate. Pours a pretty clear, maybe ever so slightly hazy light gold/yellow. The smell comes across as mostly funky/earthy.... basically a real sweaty smell... maybe like farm animals... I dunno. Taste had a bit of that plus a slight fruitiness. I thought it was a bit overcarbonated though... something about it just didn't hit the tongue right. Nice to drink, but don't think I would seek it out again.

12 oz bottle into a goblet.

Pours a clear coppery gold, topped with a finger of bright-white head. Retains with a thin, yet creamy layer of forth, that leaves a big foamy cascade of lace behind. The aroma is sweet overall with sugary bread, orange zest, and some yeasty banana. Clove and peppery spice adds some extra sharpness to all of that sweet tang, while some herbal hop gives this some light earthy notes.

The taste is pretty much the same, being sticky with sweet malts, orange citrus, banana, and some fleshy pear. Spicy clove is fairly strong here, mixing with some earthy hops to give this a sharp zippy bitterness. Spice and dusty yeast completely dries the back of this out in a big way, completely parching the mouth after each sip. The mouthfeel is medium, maybe a touch fuller, with a mellow creaminess to the carbonation that sits on top of a thicker alcohol feel underneath. Definite hefty warmth to the body but it never gets overly stinging, mostly just sticking to the feel and finish, while avoiding the flavor.

Totally serviceable Tripel here but it's over all nothing really earth-shattering either. I appreciated the hop forwardness of this at times but I find it hard to believe these 3 breweries together couldn't come up with something a little more complex.
