Review dated 6/9/2009. Tap at the Ginger Man in NYC.

Slightly hazy bright golden color with a white head. Aroma of pale malt, yeast, citrus, green apple, and mild hops. Flavor is more of the same with light fruits and some west coast hops on the finish. Dry, crisp palate with medium body. Excellent tripel.

Thanks to GRG1313 for gifting me this one.

Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy orange-bone head that settles to tiny wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, honey, fruit, spice, and some oxidation aromas. Taste is much the same with fruit, honey, and oxidized flavors on the finish. There is a very mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is showing a fair amount of oxidation and is very honey forward at this point.

2008 vintage

A: Pours a hazy orange-gold with less than a finger of white head that fades into a thin ring with no lacing.

S: Some light Belgian spice notes up front followed by candy sugar and sweet orange citrus aromas. Musty graham cracker aromas follow, suggesting some oxidation.

T: Belgian spices up front with some candy sugar flavors. Faint fruit and citrus flavors follow before a strong and slightly bitter yeast flavor kicks in. The finish has some of that musty graham cracker flavor from the oxidation.

M: Medium body with lowish carbonation, this beer is a bit too thick and under-carbonated.

O: Unfortunately I do not think time has been kind to this beer, though it was fun to try.

Had a bottle of this at the Amsterdam Ale House on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Pretty good Tripel and a lot of interesting collaborators. However, based on the bottle design and printing, I suspect that Stone was more involved in the beer than the other two brewers.

Appearance was a light straw, plenty of carbonation, nice lacing and very hard to see through, in spite of its light color.

Aroma was of banana's, esthery yeast, very nice and inviting.

Flavor was good. Very dry and well balanced. Fruit, biscuit, some hops.

A very good beer. Would love to see it on draft sometime.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Allagash glass. It poured a pale orange amber color with a thin, bubbly head scattered across the top.

The aroma has a crisp, slightly tart fruit component to it with some notes of apple and a little grape to it. A decent amount of Belgian yeast spice is there as well as some sweeter, malty notes. Pretty decent aroma overall for the style.

The taste also shows some crisp, apple like flavors mixing with some cinnamon and clove like spices of the Belgian yeast. A little dry, tartness comes out in the finish along with a little bit of the alcohol.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with carbonation being moderate. Overall it was a pretty good beer. The crisp fruits flavors really mixed well with the yeast spice. Pretty flavorful and nicely balanced beer overall. Not quite as good as some of Belgian's best, but pretty good.

12 ounce bottle into chalice. Released in Sept 2008, so it is over 3 years old now. Pours cloudy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retnetion that reduces to a thin cap that lasts. Fair amount of lacing clinging to the glass as well. Aromas of big lemon, orange, clove, pepper, candi sugar, light fruits, grains, bready/spicy yeast, and alcohol esters. Nice and well balanced aromas. Taste of lemon, orange, clove, pepper, bread, candi sugar, apple, pear, herbs, and spicy yeast. Lingering notes of pepper, clove, light fruits, bread, and spice on the finish for a while. Nice balance of flavors, with no cloying at all. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy mouthfeel. Alcohol is fairly well hidden, only a warming on the finish noticed. Quite smooth to drink, but it is still a sipper. Overall this is an excellent Tripel collab, especially at over 3 years old. Glad I got to try this.

Snifter.

A: Transparent dark gold with a small white head.

S: Bake bread with notes of apple, candi sugar, and pear. Light peppery phenols.

T: Lightly spicy up front, with pepper and floral hops. Malt is bready and sweet with accompanying candi sugar. Fruit is reminiscent of apple and pear. Finishes sweet and bready with a light bitterness.

M: Medium in body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: A nice Tripel. This has held up well.
