I love every Stone beer that they have made. I have been a big fan of the Arrogant Bastard Ale for a long time now. The Double Bastard was somewhat different.
The pour was a bit lighter, between a copper pour and the darker pour. There was no question about tropical fruit aromas. I could almost feel pineapples coming out of the bottle. The Hops were there but not as pronounced as some other Stone Ales.
The initial taste was very good, not spectacular , but enjoyable, as well as the in between and the finish
So, I enjoyed this beer, but was not over excited about it.

On-tap at Brewvival 2011. Likely dry-hopped with Centennial or Amarillo, according tho the guy pouring.

Pours a dark orange-amber with a generous off-white head. Huge aromas of hops (duh!), mostly grapefruit and pine resin, with a solid caramel malt backbone. Flavor is very pithy, with a ton of grapefruit and pine resin with a heaping helping of caramel malt. Basically Double Bastard on steroids, which is a good thing! Creamy, with medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Surprisingly drinkable, despite the high ABV. Amazing.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into an oversized snifter. Pours a cloudy amber, with a soapy skin of foam punctuated with big bubbles.

Smell is intense, malty, hoppy and yeasty. Currants and other dark fruits. Leather, earth, leafy.

Intense taste; earthy at first, but smooths out, with sweet apricot, grape, and currants, malty and biscuity in the middle, ending bitter and astringent.

Mouthfeel is medium, leaving the tongue dry.

Would definitely have again, though this one is so dry it requires a water chaser!

Consumed Feb. 7th, 2010 at Stone World Bistro.

Fairly clear medium coppery hue with ruby highlights. Fine, nitro-esque tan head provides good lacing.

Aroma is comparable to a fresh Stone barleywine, meaning lots of wet herbal hop character and a smallish trace of bready, caramel malt.

Malt flavors of bread and caramel again remind me of an Old Guardian, that is until the hops hit. They have no doubt faded a great deal, but there is still an earthy hop character, grassy and citric. Oh, and lots and lots of bitterness.

Mouthfeel is quite dry, bordering on parching. This is actually a good thing, considering the big flavors this beer packs.

A sipper, to be sure, but this is so similar to a barleywine (to my palate, at least) that it makes me wonder where Stone is going with this one.

It's another great IPA from Stone but the IBU just plain over power the malt in IMO. It's ABV s over the top and the taste is good but it's not as well balanced a beer as I prefer. I like the malt to come through somehwere and this just gets lost in the ABV and the hops. It's nicely carbonated and this is a one pint hand your keys over ale, seriously! It's and 10% + ABV ,not the beer you want to bring home to your momma.

Pours a gorgeous amber with reddish hints. Lots of off-white head with great lacing. Smells incredible! Hoppy up the wazoo. Lots of citrus on the nose. Tastes sweet and bitter. Vry heavy and smooth. Boozy but not nearly what i would expect at nearly 12 percent. Incredibly drinkable and very tasty
