Served in a tulip at the Shack in Sac.
A - Dark mahogany with 2 fingers of mocha colored head. Lacing was beautiful and head had good retention. Very nice.
S/T - Toffee-like malts with initial and lasting woody-earthy hop bitterness. Aroma malts are faint to none. Would like to have had more aroma and flavor malts in the quaff.
M - Slightly malt dominated with a full-body. Carbonation was moderately low and the beer was slightly warming.
D - Would really have liked less bittering hops and a more complex maltiness. Increased age (2+ years) could provide some necessary oxidation and desired sherry notes. Overall not bad, but likely to skip next time.

Enjoy by January 13.
Pours a slightly hazy amber with a frothy khaki head that lingers.
Pine, resin, and grapefruit are supported by sweet burnt sugar and toasted bread in the aroma. Pine dominates. Dark fruit notes of prunes and fig add intrigue.
Flavor begins with burnt breadcrust and deeply caramelized sugar, with underlying grapefruit pith, herbal tea, and pine, finishing fairly dry and bitter. Oak and resin linger in the aftertaste.
Body is a little full, with low carbonation and moderate alcohol warmth.
Interesting combination of flavors, thought the burnt character dominates and is slightly unpleasant.
