22ozer with a standard Stone Brew pint glass
*Notes from Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!!! 11/11/12
A: Pours that same deep auburn color as the original with such great clarity to it. Produces a good half finger of persistent khaki foam head. Leaves behind some rings of chunky lace upon the glass.
S: Smells of sweet caramelized malts and dank hops by way of pine, dried herbs, and spicy citrus. Malt imparts some undercurrents of toasted raisin bread. There is a of bit of solventy alcohol vapor coming though as well. Nice aromas overall. Seems much hoppier than the original AB.
T: Hoppy out the gates with waves of pine, orange citrus, and a real danky herbalness. Big time Chinooks here. Toasted biscuit and caramelized sugars stand firm and are complimented nicely by some raisin/plum/fig esters. A slight earthy wood note but not picking up a ton of the Oaked here. There is an upper moderate level of bitterness to the beer that lingers long after the finish. Alcohol is present but not distracting. A real nice blend and a bit more enjoyable than the standard AB for me.
M: Smooth and creamy mouthfeel overall. Delivers a nice moderate physique with slight chewy consistency and even carbonation. Has a nice drying crisp texture in the finish. Some resinous hop linger action.
D: A solid blend of the three Bastard’s. Hoppier than the originally and much more drinkable than the Double. Yet still true to Stone form with the big bold flavors we have come to love in Arrogant Bastard…only slightly more accentuated I would say. Not sure if they dry hop this version but it does seem much hoppier than the original. I can do without the drabble on the side of the bottle…what a bother to decipher.
I would say definitely go for it if you are a fan of the standard.

Appearance - The beer was a dark copper color with a fluffy off-white head crowning the snifter. Lacing followed the sides of the glass.
Smell - The malts dominated the smell with notes of fresh bread and banana hovering in the background.
Taste - On the initiate taste, the bitterness of chocolate and alcohol strikes me. Caramel makes a brief appearance. Oaky notes and vanilla float in toward the back, leaving a dry woody impression.
Mouthfeel -Carbonation is modest with few warming qualities despite the ABV. Clearly the alcohol is well masked.
Overall - I aged this one for quite a while and must state that I am not sure the waiting was worth it.
