Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.
Appearance: murky amber-brown body with a finger of thick, creamy tan foam. A pretty good looking beer.
Smell: rich, malty base with a bright, citrusy, piney hop complement atop. The hops also have a little bit of funk. It's quite nice, although relatively subtle for a Stone strong ale.
Taste: very rich and smooth. This is a top-class strong ale: huge, sweet malt with a variegated array of hop flavors. We start with an herbal, resiny flavor then move into citrus territory before flattening out into an extreme bitterness that should make the brewers feel pretty damn proud. What's amazing is that amid all this flavor and bitterness, this remains a surprisingly smooth beer.
Mouthfeel: silky smooth; big body with a decent level of carbonation. Just a little bit more creaminess would go a helluva long way, though.
Drinkability: highly drinkable for an 8.5% strong ale, though I admit I probably would not want to quaff two bottles of this in a row.

Appearance - The beer was a dark copper color with a fluffy off-white head crowning the snifter. Lacing followed the sides of the glass.
Smell - The malts dominated the smell with notes of fresh bread and banana hovering in the background.
Taste - On the initiate taste, the bitterness of chocolate and alcohol strikes me. Caramel makes a brief appearance. Oaky notes and vanilla float in toward the back, leaving a dry woody impression.
Mouthfeel -Carbonation is modest with few warming qualities despite the ABV. Clearly the alcohol is well masked.
Overall - I aged this one for quite a while and must state that I am not sure the waiting was worth it.
