Pours a deep mahogany color with a thick tan head that retains well and leaves impressive lacing...a real looker. The aroma is equally impressive with huge fresh pine and citrus hops, orange marmalade, caramel and vanilla, fruity esters, toasted bread and some alcohol...the hops really pop in the aroma. The flavor is similar with massive piney and citrusy hop notes upfront, along with some grapefruit, orange jam, caramel, toffee, oak and vanilla, fruity esters, toasted bread and some alcohol. The mouthfeel is on the thick side and drinkability is pretty good despite the hop onslaught and ABV. The is an exceptional beer, the hops are incredibly pungent and fresh and there is a nice malty complexity, easily my favorite of the Bastard series...I hope I can pick up some more of this.

Appearance - The beer was a dark copper color with a fluffy off-white head crowning the snifter. Lacing followed the sides of the glass.

Smell - The malts dominated the smell with notes of fresh bread and banana hovering in the background.

Taste - On the initiate taste, the bitterness of chocolate and alcohol strikes me. Caramel makes a brief appearance. Oaky notes and vanilla float in toward the back, leaving a dry woody impression.

Mouthfeel -Carbonation is modest with few warming qualities despite the ABV. Clearly the alcohol is well masked.

Overall - I aged this one for quite a while and must state that I am not sure the waiting was worth it.
