Smells like fresh cone hops with a sweet cherry grapefruit like smell that mixes in with the sweet malt. The taste hits you with sweet on the tip of your tongue and then a real long dry bitter finish from middle to end. I love hopped up west coast beers. You can always count on them to have that extremely fresh resinous green hop bitterness. It just tastes so fresh because of this. This would be extremely hoppy if it weren't for the sweet malt that combines with an oak like flavor that you can definitely pick up. The combination is fantastic. It really is an IPA without being an IPA but with more malts. This is an amazing beer and it combines 3 quality beers in one to get that flavor. The Arrogant Bastard Ale, Oaked Aged Arrogant Bastard and the Double Bastard. I'm glad they came up with this idea because it adds for a really complex rich tasting beer that is very hoppy resinous and piney. It has a full body feel and since you can taste the raw hops with the sweet malt the alcohol hardly comes through for 8.5. What an amazing beer. Stone never fails when it comes to top notch quality beer.

Appearance - The beer was a dark copper color with a fluffy off-white head crowning the snifter. Lacing followed the sides of the glass.
Smell - The malts dominated the smell with notes of fresh bread and banana hovering in the background.
Taste - On the initiate taste, the bitterness of chocolate and alcohol strikes me. Caramel makes a brief appearance. Oaky notes and vanilla float in toward the back, leaving a dry woody impression.
Mouthfeel -Carbonation is modest with few warming qualities despite the ABV. Clearly the alcohol is well masked.
Overall - I aged this one for quite a while and must state that I am not sure the waiting was worth it.
