Appearance - Beautiful, deep ruby to auburn color. Almost completely opaque. A kahki colored head leaves a nice 1/4 " ring with some spotted lacing.

Aroma - Subtle wood/oak, resiny pine hop, sweet malt.

Taste - In the eloquent words of Kool-Aid man, Oh yeah!! Very solid toasted bread like malt base. A spiceyness along with the hops. Both piney and citrusy. The hops and malt are very well balanced. Rock candy like sweetness. Slight caramel. Oak chips are noticeable, but not nearly to the extent of Oaked Bastard. Finish is very smooth and not bitter.

Feel - Perfect. Just right on the carbonaion, the body, the alcohol. Leaves a nice slick coating and a general feeling of happiness.

Overall - While I have always personally found Arrogant Bastard to be a little overhyped, not the case here. Very different and interesting beer. Almost like a sexy, sophisticated American Barleywine had a baby with a fined tuned, athletic world class DIPA and sent it to the American Strong Ale Academy for gifted beers. Each version seems to get even better. If this were in 12 oz bottles I may never buy Oaked again.

A: Pours an attractive deep ruby with brownish hue. Translucent with no visible carbonation. Beige foamy head that settles down a bit and leaves some lacing along the glass. Great looking color.

S: A blast of sweet malt aromas as it pours from the bottle. Once poured the malt comes through as raisin bread. Some woody notes, but not overpowering. Formidable hop presence. Earthy and resinous. Slightly herbal with notes of tea and bay leaves. Alcohol comes through as the beer warms. Complexity noted.

T: I would describe the flavor profile as an IPA brewed with hops that impart earthy and resinous notes, backed by a moderate malt presence that is just sweet enough to let the hop bitterness come through and linger. The beer becomes less bitter and more grassy as it approaches room temperature. Notes of tea, green bell pepper. Semi dry and moderately bitter with notes of espresso soaked lemon rind.

M: Smooth and moderately carbonated.

D: Highly drinkable. A dynamic beer.

Pours a reddish brown with a creamy one finger head. Smell is very hoppy. Tangarine, bubble gum, grapefruit. There's an oaky presence with a sweet bread malt backbone. The flavor is delicious. Toffee, bubblegum, hop bitterness. Very creamy mouthfeel. Quite a delicious beer.

The beer comes in a rich dark ruby color.

The aroma is caramel sweetness, with an amalgamation of hops from grapefruit, hints of tropical nectar, resinous pine, and garlic.

The flavor follows with lots of sweetness up front of candy and sugar. Then onto sweet dried grapefruit peel, touches of tropical, then onto an aggressive bitterness.

The beer is just very sweet and bitter. It drinks well otherwise, but those are huge detractors for the brew.
