Odd staleness in the body. Not unpleasant, but unexpected. Lingering hop finish.

I can't find a date on the bottle amid all the cutesy bullshit diatribe - wait - BB 1/1/15 - at 40 degrees into a nonic
Aroma very conifer-ey
Head small (2 cm), off white, frothy, diminishing to 4 mm ring and 1 mm layer
Lacing complete ring about 2 mm thick with mostly tiny bubbles
Body medium amber, crystal clear
Flavor very pine hoppy forward, quickly dropping to some random terpenes which hang around before morphing into a light bitterness; no alcohol, no malt, no diacetyl
Palate light, watery, soft carbonation

Appearance 4, Aroma 4.5, Flavor 4.5, Palate 3.5, Overall 4

Not a big Stone fan because my experience makes them seem over rated for the price point, but this brewski is pretty good.

I've enjoyed the Bastard Box. The double was my favorite by a long shot - always has been. This one was just not AS outstanding. The sum of the parts / 4 is not more than the parts.

It is real dark and kinda ugly. The aroma is a sublime mixture of malts mostly. The head is really pretty.

The taste is a bitter malty mess. It just isn't better than double. It's thick and sweet and bitter, with an aftertaste that sits bitter.

These bastards are a nice (OK, a not nice) bundle and they should sell a lot of these to people making a bad holiday statement.
