Deep brown, semi-translucent. Smells great. Sweet hops; very inviting. Bitterness of the hops hits you right away. Rich, caramel, dark fruits and plenty of hops. Mouthfeel is slightly creamy with medium carbonation. Not terribly boozy, but the alcohol is there.

Overall: Has a nice rich color and a great hoppy smell, making it a very inviting beer. The bitterness hits in the beginning rather than the finish as many beers do, and this gives it a welcoming initial burst. Very interesting. A satisfying and flavorful gulp. A tad bit of warmth despite being quite hoppy and bitter. Not amazingly complex, but a great example of a delicious hoppy brew. I would recommend this one.

Poured into a large brandy snifter. Pours dark ruby brown with a two-finger length of-white head that retains very well. There is plenty of lacing left on the side of the glass during consumption. There are a lot of hop aromas in the smell. I get the typical citrus and pine. There's some oakiness and plenty of caramel malt. There's a lot going on here in the flavor. Those hops are up front and are somewhat dank with plenty of citrus. The piney hops are stronger in the back end and there is a nice lingering aftertaste. I get the caramel oakiness that is typical of the oaked bastard. There's a solid malt backbone here that is typical of the regular arrogant bastard. There is some alcohol too. It almost seems like I get different aspects of the different bastards with each sip. The body is medium to full with moderate carbonation. It's a smooth beer that drinks very well. This is an excellent beer.

A-Clear ruby, some carbonation, one finger head with some lacing.

S-Good hop profile, earthy, caramel and some dirt.

T-Good balance, caramel balances out with good hop profile. Some toffee. Dirt and grass ends with some bitterness.

M-Medium bodied, crisp with hop resins abound.

O-Was expecting a little bit more in terms of hops but it was a decent beer at the end of the day. Hopefully Stone releases this more often.

Now this is a New Beer Sunday beer.

The body is a deep amber, looks more like Oaked Arrogant than the other 2. Thin khaki head.

I get alot of Arrogant Bastard on the nose. Strong caramel and toffee notes (probably from Double Bastard). I surprisingly get alot of pineapple and grassy aromas. Other faint citrus fruits like lemon, oranges, and starfruit come in faintly. Very balanced and nice.

Lots of grassy, lemony hops. The hops that come one remind me ALOT of 16th Anniversary from Stone. Light slick lemons and lemongrass as well. Toffee and caramel are more in the background than I expected, and its more drinkable than you would expect.

It drinks extremely well. The slick hops make what would be a super sweet beer very balanced. I like it.

2012 bottling. Poured from an arrogant bottle into an unworthy New Belgium snifter. This lucky bastard of a beer pours clear with a beautiful reddish amber color, a nice rocky head, and bubbles streaming up the center of the glass. Nice nose with a good mix of caramel malt tones, sticky, sappy hops, and a hint of vanilla.

Full body and really creamy feel on this bastard. Flavor-wise, this is one complex bastard. I swear I can taste all 3 of the Bastards in this bastard. I get sweet caramel and oaky, vanilla-like notes in the front of the palate and a nice blast of hops at mid-palate that bring on flavors of oranges and grapefruit. The finish is dry and sustained and has a nice pleasant boozy Double Bastard warmth to it. Those bastards at Stone really know what they're doing.

This bastard makes me proud of the term ``American Strong Ale''. Its blend of somewhat mismatched flavors make it a truly unique bastard. It's like a cross between a barleywine and an IPA with a dash of vanilla tossed in for good measure. Definitely recommended (bastard).

Pours dark reddish brown with a finger of head, decent retention and lacing.

Totally hop forward..evergreen, some citrus, some sweet grains in the back for balance.

Big bitterness throughout, oily hops, overwhelming pine, long dry bitter finish.

Medium bodied, dry.

Good but too much going on. Why complicate things by blending bastards?

Presentation: 22 oz brown pop top with quintessential Stone graphics and attitude; best by 1-31-13. Poured into my half-pint Black Sheep chalice.

Appearance: Bright, beautiful amber hue, with a large light tan cap which shows good retention.

Smell: Straight-up dank, herbal hops (Chinooks?). Just a bit of sweet caramel malt underneath, but it's almost completely overwhelmed by the hops.

Taste: Big bitterness (of course), with herbs and a touch of orange pith. The caramel malts are honestly pretty overwhelmed here. The alcohol is definitely there, but it's not overpowring. Not as much of the oaked Bastard as I'd like, but there is a bit of oaky astringency here.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, which really increases the drinkability, but I'd almost like just a bit more in a beer of this size/strength.

Overall: Bold, brash, and ballsy. Pretty much the only way Stone knows how to do it. I like this better than Double Bastard, which I found (even after a year) to be a bit too sharp and unbalanced. This is bolder than Arrogant Bastard, and just slightly rougher. Yet, I have to say I like this almost as well, or as well, as the Oaked Bastard, which might be my favorite of the four. For $6.99, this is something I'd pick up once or twice a year if I had access.

Poured into a goblet.

Pours cola-colored, nearly the same color as the bottle. Nice film of pale white head throughout.

Aroma is a potent mix of caramel and piney, biting hops. There's a touch of sweetness, like M&Ms, as well.

Flavor is a really interesting mix of malts and hops. Caramel and an oak woodiness permeate, but leave a little room for the dry, pine hope flavor to sneak through. The combined flavor is so big, I almost wish this beer was a pie so I could chew it.

Mouthfeel is perfect. Nice and dense, but the finish is just a bit sticky, with wonderful flavors remaining.

Great beer all-around. Sometimes brewers amaze me, especially ones like Stone, who produce these spectacular beers with huge flavors in mass quantities. There's a reason they're one of the best.
