On tap at Father's Office in Culver City, CA. Served in a snifter 12/12/14.

A- Dark copper-brown body. One finger white head with nice retention time, no lacing. The head disappears quickly into a thin collar that persists for a while. Overall the colour of the body is a bit gross; murky even. That's not been the best aspect of the Bastards anyway, so I'm not too worried.

S- Pine hops, oak, herbal aromatics assault the nose. A good bit of sweet caramel and raisins hit the nose as well. This is an intense, hoppy and malty beer that brings all aspects of the beer cleanly to the nose. Very complicated, even has a bit of leather to it if I'm not mistaking it for something else.

F- Bitter pine up front, oak and caramel in the middle, raisins and some citrus in the background. Bitter pine and breadiness finishes things out. There is a lot going on in this beer, not all of it good, but it makes for a relatively unique and interesting flavour that seems to defy even what one of the Bastards would bring to the table with characteristics of another Bastard. Fascinating beer that doesn't work for me, but overall the Bastards aren't my favourite base beer in any case so I am not too surprised.

M- Medium bodied, on the fuller side. Just about right in terms of carbonation. Slick and resinous, the finish is pine-forward all the way despite the strong malt presence that balances it out in a good way. More like restrains it, really.

O- Unsurprisingly hop-forward, Stone remains unapologetic for what they are and what they do, and this beer represents that quite well. Love them or hate them, they are here to stay and you might as well get around to trying their brews. Even if you're like me and don't get their beers in Wisconsin.
