Pours an almost clear dark reddish-brown color with a medium off-white head. Scent is very similar to Oaked Arrogant Bastard with very minimal woody notes along with intense hoppiness and dark fruits. The taste is exactly what I thought it would taste like...a nice blend of all three of the bastards. The alcohol and strong malt profile are definitely there from the Double Bastard. The smooth and subtle wood chip notes are there from the Oaked. And the hoppy bitterness from the Original Bastard complete this tasty beer. All in all, I say it is more of a sister version to the Double Bastard than original Arrogant is. Mouthfeel is a nice full-bodied, velvety liquid that leans slightly to the sticky side. Drinkability is pretty high. Very tasty beer!

My brother picked up three 220z bombers for me at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido - thanks bro! Poured it into an Old Speckled Hen pint glass.

A: Pours a deep cherry brown hue with a solid head that sticks around for a while, leaving a thick coat of lace in my glass from start to finish.

S: Sweet toasted malt, nice earthy hop, plums, raisins, wood and booze.

T: Prevalent earthy hop bight up front, plums and other fermented fruit, tons of malty goodness - sweet carmel, roasted grains, chocolate, with a slight boozy finish - real nice balance of all the flavors though.

M: A solid medium-bodied brew with mellow carbonation lending to the smooth creaminess of the mouthfeel.

D: Definitely an easy drinker for an 8.5 %, but I had to back off after 2 of these bad boys.

A: Brownish amber in color. Slightly cloudy. Forms a respectable, creamy, tannish colored head. Good retention and lacing.

S: Pungent hops with a caramel malt background. Some alcohol.

T: A good dose of thick, creamy caramel malt nicely balanced out by a deep, earthy, hop bitterness. Earth, wood, oak, and dark malt with a bit of fusel spice on the finish.

M: Heavier side of medium with a slightly creamy mouthfeel that is cut by the hoppy bitterness. Appropriate carbonation.

D: A nice beer, a bit more malty than I expected, but the aggressive hops tone down the maltiness, making this a rather enjoyable drink.

A: The pour is a clear copper-amber color with a finger or so worth of off-white head.

S: Smells intensely hoppy, much like Arrogant Bastard. Lots of piney and citrus peel hop notes which are quite pleasant. Follows with caramel and brown sugar and apples.

T: The flavor is really nothing like the aroma. The hoppiness is not really there other than a bit of bitterness. There is an intensely sweet flavor that is almost like candied apples. A touch of alcohol is present as well. Maybe just a bit oxidized as well.

M: The body is medium and so is the carbonation.

D: The smell of this was really great, but the flavor was sort of weird. A bit too sweet and appley for my tastes. But, an interesting enough to keep me coming back.

Nice celebratory ale, good range with a characteristically arrogant range.

Presentation: 22 oz brown capped bottle. Iconic head of the demon gargoyle in screen-printed white over scrambled text highlighting the name of the altered name of the brew. Back offers a tongue in cheek scrambled narrative with intent, ingredients, and rambling bragging. 2010 release, 13 anniversary of the Arrogant Bastard. Shows Alc. by Vol. (8.5%). Poured into a tulip glass.

A - Amber brown pour, generous creamy head, good retention and some nice lacing.

S - Hoppy nose, caramel, a bit of resin, malty, nice range but slightly shy...

T - Hoppy, bitter in a rather rich way, caramel and malt good flow, a bit straight early on, as it progresses the hops settle in and the malty range takes a broader range with a nice hint at the oak, light notes of vanilla, even a minor spicy dash in the finish.

M - Medium with a fake dribble to medium-lightl body before settling back, moderate carbonation. Creamy feel, with a hoppy sense and a dry touch in the finish.

D - Quite tasty and very drinkable. Nice celebration.

Notes: First time I might be worthy. It is not mind blowing but it drinks rather well, the hops shine over the sturdy malty sense, and the second half offers the sweet and malty nuances of the oak. And while there is not a complaint about the mouthfeel, I could have done with a bit more stickiness to it, but that is me. Great brew.

Poured from a tap at TJs in Paoli into a tulip taster glass. This is the first time I have ever seen or had this beer. Sweet.

A: A reddish brown color with a hint of orange. A thin off white head left full ring lacing on the glass.

S: Citrus and piney hops dominate the nose with some sweet malt undertones. The hops dominate though.

T: Surprisingly the sweeter bready biscuit malt come out first but quickly get assumed by the just massive hops. Hops flavors of citrus and pine dominate with some alcoholic flavors. The finish is all hops that turn massively bitter and just linger forever. Wow.

M: Full, resiny, prickly, bitter, bitter, bitter. This baby lasts forever in your mouth.

Overall this was a fantastic beer. Just the right combination of Double Bastard and Arrogant Bastard. It carries more hops than AB, way more hops (like that's possible) but doesn't carry the alcohol of DB. Fantastic beer.

22 picked up at the COOP tonight after work... Poured into my SN XXX goblet.

Sticky tannish head... nice lacing and descent retention... the brew is deeeep amber and very clear... pretty.

Typical Stone calling card nose... resinous hoppy notes cling to my nostril hairs... Bunches of pithy citrus zest and caramel... hints of brown sugar essence.

Bracingly bitter with barely enough malt sweetness and caramel to balance.. pine and citrus zest are very abundant from the beginning to a long lingering finish... so amazingly hoppy... a palate punch for sure.

Body and carbonation are both medium.... the bubbles are small bubble and very smooth.... I will be saving the rest in the hopes that my brother actually does stop by later this evening.

Just a huge beer... but much like AB, DB and OAB, I am truly appreciate it, but am getting a bit tired of them.

My dad bought me a 22 0z. bomber as a Thanksgiving Day gift.

The color is a rusty, ruby, tawny color. Very quick beige head that has no retention and some sparse bubbling.

The aroma is a spicey citric fruit skin. Makes me think of orange and lime zest. The malts add some toasted caramel sweetness so the the aroma isn't one hundred percent dominated by hops. But its close, and I think that was the intention.

Lots of citric and earthy hops upfront. Mostly ctric though. The front is a clementine, mandarin, and navel n orange peel mix of strong bitterness. The middle lets the malt bill have a little say in the matter, but still powered over the earthy flower petal and dirt hops. The finish is a resiny palated orange zest hop bomb that lingers for quiet awhile after each sip. The alcohol seems to enhance the hops bitterness. Particularly on the finish.

This beer's effing spelling begs for misunderstanding. Beer is poured into a dogfish head snifter. Beer is dark amber with mild haze, good head of small bubbles, great lacing, low carbonation.

Aroma is chewy with CTZ hops and a nice malt backbone.

Beer is big in body, very chewy on the back-half. I think the oak wins in the blend, I should bother to look up the blend but ultimately I won't. Oh well....Beer is hoppy and bitter in the second half. Earthy and sulfur, classic centennial hop character, oak in the late palate, lead off is like double bastard with strong character and malt backbone. I'd have it again. I love Stone, the brewery that got me into beer and keeps me coming back.

Poured into tulip glass. Clear and deep mahogany in color, the color is almost the same as the color of the bottle (so maybe that would be more dark brown?). Not the thickest head even with a slightly aggressive pour. Some retention and lacing but nothing incredible. Smell is amazing! Great pineapple and grapefruit hops that smell fresh as can be. Really impressive. Some malt but mainly those citrusy hops. This is definitely reflected in the taste. The taste is a more complex though. Its a great blend of some oak (presumably from the Oaked Arrogant) with some caremel malt and then the nice citrus hop kick as it goes down. A little bit of alcohol too but nothing bad. Mouthfeel was thicker but not too crazy with an oily slick left behind. Overall a great beer and the ABV is unnoticeable. My only critique is that its not all that different than the individual bastards but I guess its just a blend so obviously it'll share their characteristics.

Decided to crack this one tonight during Ghost Hunters...

Pours a rich deep red with a slow but steady forming head atop... Seems a little deeper than regular AB...

Loaded with pungent oily citrus and pine hops, this beer smells incredible... Dark sweet fruits and caramel malts as well... Definitely getting the oak and the deeper maltiness of the Double.... An earthiness as well which I think comes from the oak...

Sweet fruity malts are quickly eclipsed by oily resiny piney goodness that kicks like a mule with the bitterness it brings... Long, slow and intense... Definitely getting some oak as well but those Stone hops are the star and they shine bright here. This is an amazing brew...

This is better than the sum of its parts.... I wish they'd make this a rotational or seasonal at least... The blend of all 3 of these great beers combine to make an awesome world class one... I could drink this til I dropped. When Stone gets it right, they really get it right...

22oz bottle poured into large snifter glass

Pours a deep auburn with ruby tones, slightly hazed. A fairly thick tanned head bubbles up, retaining pretty well while eventually fading into some bubbly film. Leaves plenty of spotty, patchy lacing on the glass.

Strong nose with citrus and heavy pine hops. Hints of oak with a splash of alcohol and some caramel as well.

Begins strong and bitter with a heaping dose of pine hops. Powerful citrus, rind, grapefruit, and zest combine with lasting flavor. A mildly sweet malt base is hidden towards the middle with caramel, bread, and earth tones. The oaked portion is evident as well with a bit of raisins and dates. Finishes with bitter hoppiness and some alcohol heat.

Medium bodied, varies from creamy and smooth to dry and chewy feels. Drinks well, although the occasionally intense bitterness and boozy tones slow it down a bit. Solid beer from Stone, but not my favorite.

Pours a deep ruby red. About an inch of off white head. The head falls to a ring that leaves webs and spots of lacing.

I smell citrus, pine, with undertones of caramel, and tea. Very pleasant...imagine hop jolly ranchers if you will. The aroma leads me to belive this will be one bitter beer.

Taste like pine cone tea, citrus, pine, oak, ripe pineapple. with a nice caramel sweetness underneath . Not as bitter as the nose suggested.

Full body with light carbonation. it is oily and coats my tongue with a slightly astringent sensation.

Another great beer from Stone. Easy to drink despite all that is going on.

Poured out of a bomber into a Duvel.

A - Pours a deep brown with a creamy brown head. One inch head.

S - Fruity smell with some definite citrus. Has a bit of an acidic smell as well. Hoppy of course. Has some pine in there as well.

T - Tangy to me for sure. Hops all over this one. Runs a little bit bitter at the end.

M - Medium bodied. Bitter. Has good carbonation.

D - Solid.

The beer was served in an Imperil Pint glass.

Appearance; This Bastard is a sexy beast! The body of the beer is deep copper amber in coloration. The head is beige with nice head retention. The lacing looks like pancake batter on the sides of the glass.

Smell: The aroma of the beer is arrogantly hopped! The hops strike my nose with grapefruit, citrus rind, pine resin. My friend says it smells like bitter Pinesol. Nice caramel vanilla biscuit malty backbone supporting all those hops.

Taste: Dam near perfect flavors! Major hop assault in progress in my mouth. Nice citrus marmalade flavors with grapefruit, zest, thick oily pine resin, pine needles, dives through an oaked caramel biscuit and cuts down into bitterness. Long lasting bitterness.

Mouthfeel / Drinkability: The body of the beer is thick. The beer is full bodied and the carbonation is light. The texture of the beer is hop oily and very smooth on the finish. The alcohol is present but not in an intrusive manner. This is a very nice blend of beers. This bastardized bastard of a beer is smooth. I wish I had another.

On-tap at Sierra Grille last week, reviewed from notes. Listed as 8.5%.

Pours dark red, off-white head turns to a thick ring leaving decent lacing.

Smell/taste/mouthfeel - HUGE oak, fresh dark fruits, caramel, pine, a little bit of chocolate. Smooth, lowish carbonation, alcohol very hidden, doesn't feel near 9.2%. Seems extremely malty with low hoppiness (maybe overly smoothed out from the oak), unusual for Stone.

For a blend this tasted pretty different than what I expected, it's good but I'd reach for any of the other Bastards before this one.

A: Cloudy red with a half finger of head.

S: Belgian yeast. Faint smells. Nothing too strong.

T: Sweet caramel taste. Sweeter than the other bastards. Nice bitter taste at the end. Some belgian yeast funk.

M: Smooth and decent carbonation

D: An enjoyable drink. I had a hard time reviewing it because of it's similarities to the other Bastards. I prefer the double bastard the most of the four.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a pint glass. The brew pours a deep reddish copper color with a thick and creamy off-white head and gentle visible carbonation release. Great clarity.

Intensely sweet grapefruit notes, a slight acidic tang, and a thick resinous quality all hit my nose first. The hops are very in-your-face and fragrant in this beer--it reminds me of the hop scents of Stone's Ruination. There are also notes of bread, roasted grains, wood(?), and some faint hint of sweet candied fruits.

Very tasty. The hops aren't as intense as I would have guessed from the smell. Though this is a hoppy beer, to be sure; there isn't that huge citrusy kick you would get from the Ruination. Sweet grapefruit, once again. Smokey roasted malt, and a faint grassy taste come in after the initial hop flavors. There is just the slightest hint of an alcoholic taste, along with a bit of sweetness that comes with it, though I find it to be quite gentle.

This is a fairly thick-bodied beer with a slick and slightly syrupy texture, as well as a certain astringency. It's very interesting, and the drinkability is really quite good.

Arroma: What a bouquet! This is one of the freshest, hoppiest noses ever to come out of the bottle. If I could drink this through my nose I would.

Taste: This is basically a stronger, more full bodied version of Arrogant Bastard...which is already pretty damn strong and full bodied. Leave it to Stone to not be satisfied with their own belligerence. There's hops in the beginning, middle and end and plenty of malt to match.

Mouthfeel is a little heavy. It's supposed to be a heavy beer but it starts to feel a little syrupy by the end.

Got this beer on tap at Macs on South Blvd in Charlotte, THE 2010 WINNER OF THE STONE'S MOST ARROGANT BAR IN AMERICA!!
Pours a deep amber brown with hues of amber and dense cloudy body. A fluffy white head sits atop the body and sticks around for several minutes before thinning to a froathy lining.
Smells far hoppier than any of the bastards that were used to make the beer. Very floral and piney hops ring out with a thick caramel undertone. Hints of red, dark fruits like prunes and raisons.
Taste similar to smell but more bittering hops and heavier caramel notes. Some subtle alcohol notes throughout the mouthfeel. Some toffee and biscuit character with some caramunich sweetness. The finish is bitter from piney hops, mostly chinook-like hops.
It's clean but very thick and full bodied. I love this mouthfeel. I wouldn't call it sessionable but it's definitely a multi-use beer, one that can be for a main course, a mid-event drink or a desert/night cap.
Love the brew and get every time I stop by Macs, congrats again guys and thanks for keeping the Stone title in Charlotte, NC for a second year!!!

Bomber served cool into an imperial pint glass.

The Lucky Basartd is similar to its brethern with ruby amber color, good clarity, and thick long-lasting head. As it settles, a nice lace is left in its wake.

Aroma is also similar to the bastards that came before it but seems more amped up in terms of hops. The smell is pure hophead bliss with great west coast character, ie. citrus.

It's flavor is similarly hard to fault. A rich and robust caramel malt backbone stands strong but not as strong as the dominant hops. Great strength and depth of flavors without being overpowering. At least, that is, if you have befriended a bastard before.

Mouthfeel is medium-plus bodied with a little more carbonation than is strictly neccessary.

Overall another great beer in a lineup from Stone that is second to none.

Always more than happy to try something new from Stone. Review is from notes taken on 12/6/2010 and poured from the bottle to a snifter.

Appearance: Pour is a coppery/mahogany color and starts with a one finger khaki head that fades almost immediately to a very faint and incomplete skim and thin ring around the surface; body is a little murky and rather dark, but you can still see through it for the most part; fair spots, strands and washes of lacing are left behind on the sides of the glass.

Smell: Yep, it's from Stone... Tons of hops that are right up front and come across a little piney, but there is a big citric aspect as well that comes across the nose like grapefruit and/or pineapple; slight malt presence hiding out in the back, but it really does allow the hops to shine.

Taste: Gotta love the West Coast and the way they use their hops out there -- tons of the bitter hops and they really come across as citric, especially grapefruit and pineapple like in the nose, but also a touch of mango, perhaps?; it does have a firm matly backing that provides just a touch of balance, but it still allows the hops to do their job; faint presence of alcohol, but for being over 9%, it's very well hidden.

Mouthfeel: Body is medium weight; carbonation is super solid -- not too strong, but present enough to keep it lively yet smooth; a moderately thick, semi-dry sticky coating is left on the palate; belly is left a little warm from the bigger ABV.

Drinkability: Solid beer and a great offering from Stone; nice and bold hoppy flavors that any Bastard would be happy to imbibe; also, it's really well balanced for being the hop bomb that it is; ABV would definitely catch up though, so I can't give it any higher than 4 and feel OK about it.

Another major winner from Stone. This is like a liquid creme brulee. Or more accurately, like a creme brulee without the creme.

Pours a deep purply amber with a big, fluffy tanish head that falls to a sticky curtain of lace. The aroma is huge and carmelly, with a big dose of citrusy hops that takes a dark, plummy turn in conjunction with the malt. The flavor is like burnt caramel, with a sweet, charred edge. The hops are huge and sweet and blowzy, citrusy and piny. The mouthfeel is chewy and firm, with a bitter, carmel crunch to it.

S - hops are the strongest aroma with a light malty backbone.

T - very good tasting beer, the hops upfront are smoothed out with solid malt and light wood notes.

D - very drinkable considering the higher abv.

Presentation: 22 oz. bomber bottle split with a friend. Poured into a Sam Adams pint glass.

Appearance: Deep mahogany brown with crimson red highlights throughout. Two finger sticky beige head with really good retention.

Aroma: Assertive pine notes from the hops up front. Really an onslaught of hops. Some caramel and molasses from the malt.

Taste: Pine and grapefruit rind really dominate here. A strong bitter bite comes from the hops. Almost a touch of pineapple sweetness cuts through the bitter hops. A slight backing of sweeter malt too. Finish is really bitter and filled with pine.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied, but with some lively carbonation to keep it crisp. Really dry finish.

Drinkability: I cannot imagine having more than one of these in a sitting. It is really flavorful and high in ABV, but the first is definitely enjoyable and in your face.

Overall, one of the hoppier beers I've had in a good long while. The hop profile was a nice combination of over the top bitterness and sweet nice fruit notes. Definitely a nice beer for the price and one that should be enjoyed fresh.
