22 oz. bottle, with bottled on date 10/20/2014 printed on the bottleneck, so this is some pretty fresh bastard right here. My first time with this blended variant, expectations are pretty good.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - It pours a thick ruby-ish body, semi-clear, with about a finger and a half of thick doughy khaki head. Leaves behind lots of good thick sticky lacing. Looks nice for what it is.

S - As expected, the aroma is mostly a big citrus pine hop bomb and little else. Grapefruit, pine, resin, oranges, and notes of brown bread and sweetened caramel malt.

T - It follows the nose - lots of big bold citrus - orange, tangerine, grapefruit, & pine with lots of bitterness. Creamy and easy drinking for the big bitterness and abv, I suppose.

M - Feel is extremely bitter and dry. Medium-full bodied with low lying carbonation.

Overall, it was definitely not everything I was hoping it would be. It tasted like little else than your average Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale to my destroyed palate. Still, I am interested to try the Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard Ale, amongst the others.

22oz bottle served in a Rastel tulip glass. Bottled 10/03/14.

Appearance: Bright deep dark amber to copper red. Light tan persistent thin head across the top. Plenty of persistent lacing - islands and strands.

Smell: Hoppy with citrus and orange, plus a sweetness under it all along with some pine. The hop aroma takes on some dankness at the beer warms up. It does indeed remind me of Arrogant Bastard with some Double Bastard thrown in.

Taste: Deeply hoppy with orange and citrus zest and some grapefruit as well. There is a solid malt middle to balance all the hops with caramel and bready malt flavors. The finish is a mildly lingering bitterness with pine and a hint of lemon. Alcohol well hidden for a 8.5% ABV beer.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, nicely thick (approaching creamy), just right carbonation. A bit sticky on the teeth.

Overall / Drinkability: Dangerously drinkable....I wish I had another bottle right about now. I am indeed a lucky bastard for getting to enjoy this one, which does indeed come across as a blend of Arrogant Bastard and Double Bastard. I'm not detecting the oaked version of Arrogant Bastard in this, but I can tell it is a blend, and it's nicely done as well. Like an amped up version of the normal Arrogant Bastard - more intense but with some extra hop flavors thrown in.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/20/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around that glass. Aromas of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, floral, grass, oak, light vanilla, and floral/oak earthiness. Incredible aromas with great balance and complexity of big citrus/tropical hops, moderate dark malt sweetness, and oak notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, floral, grass, oak, light vanilla, and floral/oak earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, oak, and floral/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity and balance of big citrus/tropical hops, dark/bready malt, and moderate oak flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an fantastic blended strong ale style. All around awesome complexity and balance of big citrus/tropical hops, dark/bready malt, and moderate oak flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Reddish amber colored with a quarter inch of tightly knit khaki colored foam. Brussels lacing. Aroma is of amber malt and citrus hops. The flavor is jam packed with a nice interplay between cereal grain maltiness and citrus hops. The cereal grains start in the front of the palate. The mouth is moderately carbonated and a bit sticky.

L: This Bastard pours a rich reddish brown with a thick off-white head. Very clear with no signs of haze and a few carbonation bubbles popping up. The head turns into a light lacing. It looks very inviting.

S: A complex blend of different aromas. Most forward are notes of black cherry and raisin with some oak and spicy hop notes. There are some subtle notes of roasted bread underneath, but they are very subtle compared to everything else.

T: If anything, there may be too much going on in this beer. The taste up front is crisp and hints of lightly roasted malt before being overwhelmed. The dominant flavors in the body match the aroma. A complex blend of dark fruits (most notably black cherry here), oak aged flavor and some surprisingly spicy hops. It's very well balanced and all three flavors are constantly fighting for your attention. The finish tastes more of raisin and the spicy hops. My biggest complaint is that the aftertaste is a very strong bitter with a resiny tinge that I didn't smell or taste elsewhere. However, it's hard to be too upset when it taste that good before swallowing.

F: Crisp, thick and immediate. It demands your attention by feel alone.

O: The cap said that I wasn't worthy and I might not be. This is a complex and hearty beer that should not be opened lightly. I would recommend that you try Arrogant Bastard first, but I feel anyone who likes Arrogant Bastard will love Lukcy. I love Stone's flagship. It is one of the few beers that I go back to on a regular basis and this Lukcy a hell of a treat for me. I will definitely buy a couple more to celebrate the holidays and got a strong desire to hold a Stone tasting party while drinking this.

This beer was poured from a 22oz bottle into a Blind Pig mug and enjoyed at apx. 60F.

Most noticeable on the nose is a Stone classic hop blend. Not overly dank it's a more balanced profile of herbal and resiny notes.

The flavor is far more hop forward, as this is a Strong Ale. A bit of malt supports the backdrop but a herbal, floral hop sets bravely at the forefront. This is very good but simply doesn't distinguish itself from the rest of Stones repertoire
