I finally tracked down the last Bastard! ... Which is simply a blend of the bastards I HAVE tried... but also DRY-HOPPED! I can't wait. It says "DIRNK ME NOW" and "DON'T CELALR"... Too bad. I DID cellar it for one night (and I'm sure it would age wonderfully for over a year, too, based on my experience cellaring Arrogant Bastard). But I will drink it now, cellar temperature, in my snifter.

Like every other bastard beer I've beheld, this one is a gorgeous sight. That familiar frothy tan head complementing a deep, shining garnet hue. Awe-inspiring.

It smells of dark cherries and raisins, with accents of pine, citrus zest, vanilla, and a little smoke and leather. A non-specific berry scent too, I think. And of course, DANK HOPS. Love it.

Okay the flavor took me by surprise a bit. A bright, astringent blend of citrus rind and well... DRY hops hits hard and fast like a ninja. We're talking an initial hops assault on the DIPA level here. In the aftermath of this I can taste some caramel, nuttiness, and a dry breadiness wrapping things up. What a ride!

The body is decidedly full, which I am decidedly happy with.

Being a blend of beers I'd already tried, I wasn't sure how distinctive this would be, but I think the dry-hopping made it stand out. Truly an ale worthy of being associated with Stone's prestigious family of bastard beers. It IS the progeny of tho others, after all.

A: The beer is clear amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high beige colored head that died down, consistently leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: An interesting mix of caramel malts, citrusy hops, pine resin hops and oak is present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell, except that the hops are more prominent and lend a moderate to strong amount of bitterness that lingers through the finish (especially the piney hops). Hints of alcohol and vanilla are also noticeable. Once the beer warms up, the vanilla flavors become stronger.
M: It feels a bit more than medium-bodied, crisp and very dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. Some alcohol heat is perceptible.
O: This beer is like smelling salts in that tasting the hop bitterness will definitely wake you up, but there's an interesting enough mix of flavors to make it something you can sip and savor. It definitely tastes like a hybrid between an imperial IPA and a strong ale.

Excellent hoppy beer. Pours golden with a foamy half inch of head. Citrus hop aromas. Aggressive hops that are muted by a great and substantive malting. Citrus and light fruity tastes. Oh so drinkable. The hops do act to wear down the taste buds somewhat.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/20/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around that glass. Aromas of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, floral, grass, oak, light vanilla, and floral/oak earthiness. Incredible aromas with great balance and complexity of big citrus/tropical hops, moderate dark malt sweetness, and oak notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, floral, grass, oak, light vanilla, and floral/oak earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, caramel, toffee, toast, oak, and floral/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity and balance of big citrus/tropical hops, dark/bready malt, and moderate oak flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an fantastic blended strong ale style. All around awesome complexity and balance of big citrus/tropical hops, dark/bready malt, and moderate oak flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Reddish amber colored with a quarter inch of tightly knit khaki colored foam. Brussels lacing. Aroma is of amber malt and citrus hops. The flavor is jam packed with a nice interplay between cereal grain maltiness and citrus hops. The cereal grains start in the front of the palate. The mouth is moderately carbonated and a bit sticky.

L: This Bastard pours a rich reddish brown with a thick off-white head. Very clear with no signs of haze and a few carbonation bubbles popping up. The head turns into a light lacing. It looks very inviting.

S: A complex blend of different aromas. Most forward are notes of black cherry and raisin with some oak and spicy hop notes. There are some subtle notes of roasted bread underneath, but they are very subtle compared to everything else.

T: If anything, there may be too much going on in this beer. The taste up front is crisp and hints of lightly roasted malt before being overwhelmed. The dominant flavors in the body match the aroma. A complex blend of dark fruits (most notably black cherry here), oak aged flavor and some surprisingly spicy hops. It's very well balanced and all three flavors are constantly fighting for your attention. The finish tastes more of raisin and the spicy hops. My biggest complaint is that the aftertaste is a very strong bitter with a resiny tinge that I didn't smell or taste elsewhere. However, it's hard to be too upset when it taste that good before swallowing.

F: Crisp, thick and immediate. It demands your attention by feel alone.

O: The cap said that I wasn't worthy and I might not be. This is a complex and hearty beer that should not be opened lightly. I would recommend that you try Arrogant Bastard first, but I feel anyone who likes Arrogant Bastard will love Lukcy. I love Stone's flagship. It is one of the few beers that I go back to on a regular basis and this Lukcy a hell of a treat for me. I will definitely buy a couple more to celebrate the holidays and got a strong desire to hold a Stone tasting party while drinking this.

This beer was poured from a 22oz bottle into a Blind Pig mug and enjoyed at apx. 60F.

Most noticeable on the nose is a Stone classic hop blend. Not overly dank it's a more balanced profile of herbal and resiny notes.

The flavor is far more hop forward, as this is a Strong Ale. A bit of malt supports the backdrop but a herbal, floral hop sets bravely at the forefront. This is very good but simply doesn't distinguish itself from the rest of Stones repertoire

Pours a finger and half of head on a clear dark straw body.
The aroma is lots of lemon and pine with a little mango and grain.
The taste is a great blend of lemon, pine and grapefruit bitter with mild caramel and malty sweetness.
The texture is quite soft and nice.
Really enjoyable.

You feel like a lucky bastard when you buy this thing, and it does not disappoint. It is strong, but not an overpowering ale. You can still make out the wonderful mix of flavors., and it continues to taste great until the last swig.
