A 12 ounce bottle of Levitation pours a clear, deep copper color, leaving quick light foam that lingers on the surface, alongside an excellent lacing. It has a hoppy, straw-like scent, and a taste that is punchy but fleeting. It is full of hops offering little to counter, yet it is not obtrusive, nor insistent. A mouthful is fizzy but dissipates quickly. This is pretty much the entry level brew from Stone Brewery, but like most of their other entries, it is an excellent example of style.

I was at the store buying some other stuff when I swung through the alcohol aisle and struck up a conversation with the somewhat unfortunate looking attendant who knew very little about brew. However, they did say they had been selling a lot of this beer, so I gave it a whirl.

Appearance - Poured into a standard pint glass. Pours a nice dark amber/copper color with a one finger head that quickly dissipated. Decent lacing.

Smell - Great hops scent with hints of resin and even a little toffee or roasted almond. The hops scent is certainly the prime mover though.

Taste - This is a good tasting beer that basically matches the smell. It's bitter up front, with a good hoppy/roasted almond smack in the middle, then back to the bitterness at the back end.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, well balanced, good carbonation.

Overall - This is a pretty good brew. It's nothing to put on your "wants" list or go way out of your way to try and find, but it is certainly deserving of a pint or two. I would serve it to my guests, for what it's worth, but it didn't blow my hair back.

12 oz. bottle with no bottling date; pours a clear, amber body with red hue. Two-finger light tan head that has good retention and nice lacing.

Surprised to find such a strong hoppy aroma, leaning toward pine resin. Although there is a bit of malt present, this reminds me of many IPAs I've had in the aroma category. Not a very strong aroma and not very complex.

The flavor is likewise, very similar to an APA/IPA with a dominant pine hop flavor. Some lighter citrus notes blend in favorably with the carmel malt.

Light texture in the mouthfeel. A very solid sessionable brew.

On tap at Stone's Public House in Ashland. Served in a standard pint glass. Light orange colored body. Barely had any head, but with moderate lacing though. Smell had hints of pine and citrus. Taste was refreshingly good. Nice level of hops for an amber. Enough hops to notice, but not overly hopped like some West Coast beers. Mouthfeel was smooth, with a balanced dose of malt to give it some body. I guess the one thing that surprised me was the low abv. Seeing this now as I review it, I would have never guessed Stone made this beer so low. Didn't taste like a session beer. A new beer for me when I am looking for a flavorful yet low abv choice of beer.

Enjoyed in a snifter.

A: pours a very dark ruby red. Pours with a little over a 2 finger head that is of a cream color and when dissipates leaves very nice lacing all over the glass.

S: strong piney hoppy scent, very surprising for such a low abv. Also has nice roasted malt scent. smell is very enticing and makes me look forward to drink.

T: Again, taste mimics scent, had to recheck abv multiple times, very hoppy for such a low abv. But very well balanced with roasted caramel malts. Starts off extremely hoppy, becomes sweet due to malts, finishes slightly bitter.

M: low carbonation, almost creamy consistency. Has a good body for style. Hoppiness brings a bit of excitement to the palate.

Overall, wasn't sure how this would be. Wow was I blown away. Low abv- yes but great flavor both piney hop and rich caramel malts. Stone comes through again! Great brew!

This is a solid beer. Its worthy to be in my fridge.

Bottle poured into mug, two and a half finger head.

S: Hops, malt, bready yeasts, and peppers

T: Hop bitterness was pronounced throughout the beer. At first I thought this was an IPA, but then I was corrected after reading the bottle more closely. Vanilla, piney notes, and barley provided a strong intermediate feel. The finish was back to the bitterness mentioned earlier.

M: Fulfilling and well-balanced

Overall this is worth trying.
