This beer is pretty good. The strangest thing about it is that the low ABV does not really make itself known in the taste; its still got a semi-strong taste to it. Smells of pine hops and faint malt, and it tastes more sweet than other Stone beers, the malt is at the forefront rather than the hops (which are really mellow here). The beer is enjoyable warm even, which is a surprise. My only real complaint is its a little confusing on what flavor its trying to focus on; the hops or the malt.

Still a solid drink. I'd like to call this the "Young Bastard".

A: Deep, reddish amber.

S: Floral, piney hops with a bit of bread. More like an IPA on the nose.

T: Initially dominated by the hops, though not overpowering, with a wash of caramel and wheat bread.

M: Crisp, thin, and zesty.

O: Hoppier than a typical amber ale but a well balanced deviation.

Appearance - Pours a dark reddish copper with a light tan finger width head. The head dies down within a few minutes, leaving behind a thin, sticky lace.

Smell - Classic Red ale aroma: grains and fruity malts, a dry, slightly citrus hop.

Taste - Light Caramel, a bit of red apple, a dry, citrus bitter hop. There's also a slight metallic tinge that's not entirely unpleasant, and hints of oak.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium malt body, with solid carbonation. Goes down smooth and creamy.

Overall - A fairly good red ale offering from Stone. Reminds me a bit of Red Tail Ale, though not quite as sweet or astringent, and better rounded. The low 4.4% is a bit surprising considering the brewery, known for aggressive, high ABV beers. This is a nice change-up that finds it's way for a strike.

A - Pours a clear copper color with 1 finger of clumpy tan head. Good retention and lacing.

S - Smelled this as soon as I opened it! Spicy, piney hops with a slight malt presence.

T - More malt forward than in the nose, with a moderate hop presence up front. More bitter than flavorful. Once it hits about mid palate it's all about the hop bitterness and it rides that wave right until the end where it finishes with a nice malt/hop balance.

M - Medium carbonation. Slightly creamy mouthfeel, while still being nice and crisp.

O - One of my favorite session beers. For the 4.4% ABV, it's very hoppy and delicious.
