Sampled from bottle. Rich brown with a whisper of head. Cloudy with sediment floaties. Nose is very vegetal, celery smell rushes from the glass. Behind the celery, malt and hazelnut are apparent. Taste is that of rich malty brown bread with a brown sugar sweetness. All in all solid but not at all special.

Pours a nice dark amber color. VERY Hoppy, with the pine and grapefruit flavors being very prominent. Not one of the better ones by Stone I've had but that's because of the style of this brew.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle to a pint glass.

A: Pours a deep amber/ garnet color with a 3/4 in. off-white head. Clear body.
S: Piney, with strong notes of grapefruit and peach. Hint of caramel.
T: Hops up front, with tastes of grapefruit coming through. The body of malt provides a solid middle of the taste, and lighten the feel that the hops provide. The malts are gently roasted. Pretty dry overall with a slight aftertaste of bitter hop oil flavor.
M: Pretty light for what appears on the outside as a darker beer. Dry overall. Sessionable.
O: Not bad. Most of Stone's beers are aggressively hopped, and This is less of an amber ale than it is a Red IPA, albeit sessionable. I think the low alcohol content makes the beer taste watery and makes the hops stand out a little more than they should.

Bitter, dry, non-descript. Disappointing given Stone's reputation.

On tap at Stone World Bistro in Escondido, CA. Served in a stemmed glass 12/14/14.

A- Clear, although perhaps slightly hazy, amber-red body with a one finger white head. Nice retention. Drops into a medium collar. Nice rings of lacing.

S- Bread, citrus, pine. Very pine-forward more so than citrus although citrus pops out first. The breadiness is moderate-mild in terms of sweetness. Reminds me a bit of Arrogant Bastard.

F- Pine pops out in the beginning and the end, it has a fairly bitter finish as well but of course not unbearably bitter like Arrogant Bastard. Nice malt breadiness rounds things out along with a bit of citrus and grapefruit. Nice complexity for what it delivers.

M- Medium bodied, on the thinner side but tons of flavour, nice carbonation. Piney bitterness rounds it out. Very drinkable for 4.4% ABV and especially for the flavour it provides. Really nicely done.

O- Very nice session ale, especially for the flavour it gives. It's like a Session Bastard.

Final score: 3.98
