My 400th review. Hooray for beer.
I figured I'd make my 400th review interesting so I picked up a single of this on my Thanksgiving visit back to Fort Worth. I'd not seen it before so I was very excited. I'm hoping the fact that it's several months old won't negatively affect it.
Lot of sediment floating around in the bottle, and I did my best to pour carefully, but I still ended up with some chunks in my glass. Not too worried about it, though. A pretty hue here - sort of a cloudy apricot/peach color. Not much head to speak of. The nose is very interesting. Big and hoppy, but with a strange sweetness I'm not used to in an IPA. Obviously, it's the green tea influence, and it really adds nicely, if a bit strangely, to the aroma. The taste is nice. Solid IPA bitterness, some pine notes, faint citrus, and of course, that strange but enticing green tea subtleness. Crisp and bold up front with a nice finish.
I like this beer a lot. For 9.2% ABV, it's not as boozy as I would have expected. It's a smooth IPA and the green tea component really adds to the complexity of the overall experience. A great charitable cause for a collaboration brew, and a nice beer to boot. Well done.
