Pours a deep orange hue with a thick creamy white head. The body has a lot of floaters in there, a lot of tiny proteins and perhaps something unfiltered from the final dry hopping (teaing?).
There’s a certain floral nose meeting vegetables and citrus fruits here that’s rather different, but trending towards the citrus stone IPA like nose. That said the malt isn’t really giving me much. I have a feeling this will open up a bit more as it warms. Now I can smells the caramel malts and sugars in the back. Surprisingly light nose and a lack of alcohol given the 9.2%.
I really don’t know how to describe this one. They have taken a lot of English elements from the malt and hops, but they combined these with American variants as well. What you end up with is an American citrus bite at the front followed by English caramel malts, some earthy hops, and then a finish that I can only assume is a result of tea being added. The finish is truly unique for me. It starts to build a buttery flavor but never gets there and instead has a very grassy and earth nature, but it also is cutting the hop bite in the finish and taking you somewhere else.
There is alcohol here, but it seems to give this beer a near perfect bite at the finish that the hops can’t do because of that tea finish. Otherwise I find this damn refreshing and pretty enjoyable.
An amazingly complex beer that perhaps isn’t going to become the new go to IPA or even really be popular beyond a lot of us running out and buying a few to sample, but still I really like this twist.
I'm not big on giving to charity. Something about cutting a check, but buying a beer for a good cause? Well hell, where do I get more! Cheers to all the brewers involved in this one, I just hope you make enough to make a difference.
