Stone Brew Co.
**Double dry hopped with Motueka and Pacific Gold hops**
Appears black as night. A sticky chocolate milk colored head slowly grows to over an inch and stays unmoving for quite some time. Splotches and patches of sticky lacing coat the glass. A head turner!
Powerfully pungent grapefruit, orange, and mango aromas with a roasted malt presence hiding in the background.
Some initial hop bitterness with a pungent punch of grapefruit, stinging orange, and floral hops. The hops are so incredibly powerful it's almost staggering. An always present, underlying chocolate and roasted malt presence helps balance it just a touch, but this is super hop-forward, and delicious.
The smaller the sip I take, the more roasted malt and coffee flavors are present. With larger sips (or gulps), the powerful hops are dominant.
Medium bodied and highly carbonated. Very little alcohol presence.
This is a fantastic black IPA.

One-liter growler courtesy of yourefragile. Served in a SAVOR wine glass.
Pours a very dark brown with a very nice light tan head and a great bit of lacing. Collar throughout. The nose carries some fresh New Zealand hops with some good tropical notes in addition to the normal pine and resin. Good roast in the background. Taste takes it up another notch. Really good with a great malt and hop combo. Medium body with a bitter, roasty finish. One of the best Stone beers that I have had in awhile.

On tap at URGE.
A: Black with an enormous brown head.
S: Chocolate, ash, and cocoa with prominent earth and pine. Roasted malt is pronounced. As the beer warms I detect tangerine, grapefruit, and a little mango.
T: Rich dark chocolate accompanies roasted grains and timorous dark fruit. The beer is moderately bitter with notes of earth, pine, and a little grapefruit. Finishes bitter and lightly sweet with chocolate and a dash of booze.
M: Lower full body with upper medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is sticky and chewy.
Overall: I had this when it was first released and the hops were potent. Since then the hops have backed off quite a bit (in a relatively short amount of time). This now resembles a slightly hoppy stout.

From 01/02/12 notes. 1L growler shared by yourefragile. Thanks Michael. Poured into a tulip.
a - Pours a very dark brown color, with one to two inches of dark brown head and moderate carbonation evident. Looks like the normal version of the 15th Anniversary ale.
s - Smells of citrus hops, grapefruit, roasted malts, chooclate, pine hops. Lots of hops and roasted malts, but more hops than the normal version. Hops are a little more dominant, and very enjoyable.
t - Tastes of roasted malts, citrus hops, sweet chocolate, pine hops, and grapefruit. Again, very hoppy and roasted, though not as hoppy as the nose.
m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Light bitterness from the hops up front, than smooth thanks to the malts. Surprisingly easy to drink considering the high ABV.
o - Overall a very good beer. I thought it was similiar to normal version but with a much better. hoppier nose. Would love to have it again.

1L growler thanks to Richard, shared with some friends.
Pours a dark brown with a bubbly light tan head. Fades to a thick ring of bubbles with nice lacing. Tropical fruit hops and roast malt and coffee on the aroma. Pine and resin blend with the juicy sweet new zealand hops in the finish. Strong roast and charred malt flavor in the body is stronger than the aroma, but is again balanced well by intense tropical, pine and resin bitterness. Medium thick, silky smooth body with light carbonation. Very nice, enjoyed this a lot more than regular 15 or SSR.

Always interested in Stone beers, thanks goes to yourefragile for hooking me up with this.
Beer is black with a lazy thin tan head of small bubbles, no lacing, low carbonation.
Beer smells sweet, roasty with some grassiness and fruity hops.
Beer is medium to light in body, mildly bitter on the finish and most grassy / hoppiness in the midpalate. It is a little gritty and sulfury, but that is probably just from the way it was served. I enjoyed it and if I am lucky enough to see it on tap anywhere I will definitely purchase it.

Pours pitch black. Head is a tight tan ring.
Aroma is dark grain sweetness, with an herbal hop quality. relatively mild.
Taste is initially porter-like. There is smokey dark grain with a chocolate sweetness. Then the piney-herbal hop takes over. The bitterness starts slow but really builds; creating an amazingly dry, woody finish.
Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied.
A flavorful beer. The combination of porter and IPA is seamlessly done. Very nice.

1L growler shared by yourefragile. Thanks Michael.
The beer is near black with a thick, beige head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. The aroma brings hops, pine, alcohol, roast. Very nice. The beer is smooth and silky on the palate, with prominent alcoholic heat emerging in the finish. Lots of pine throughout, balanced by a nice roast character. Medium to full bodied with solid carbonation. Overall, enjoyable, though a bit hot.
