A: Pours a deep mahogany with a fluffy head. Sticky lacing coats the glass.
S: Interesting smell. Very complex with a lot going on. Sweet yams are at the front with some brown sugar and a dark breadiness, almost like a pumpernickel. Lots of earthy spices in the background. It reminds me of Thanksgiving.
T: Birch comes through strongly at first, followed by a light hoppiness and lemon zest taste. It's hard to really pick out the individual flavors in this one, there's just so much happening. The pumpkin actually doesn't come through as much in the taste as it did in the smell. Interesting take on a pumpkin ale.
M: Fairly thin body, but with a creaminess to it. Low carbonation.
O: Not bad overall, but not something I'd buy regularly. Like I said, it was an interesting take on a pumpkin ale and was super complex. Even after reading the description on the brewers website, I couldn't pick out everything in the smell/taste that was used.
