As with any good epic, herein lies the promise of larger-than-life experiences, heroics and twists & turns as the adventure unfolds. These bottle-conditioned ales are specifically designed to be aged until sometime after December 12th, 2012. Provided you can wait that long. At that time, enjoy them in a "vertical" tasting. Each one unique to it's year of release. Each with its own "twist & turn" in the plotline. Each one released one year, one month and one day from the previous year's edition. This is supposed to be aged until 12/12/12. I have one I am saving and will review this again when I try it.

This one poured a dark mahogany with red hints, a good three finger tan head that fades quickly but leaves ok rings of lace.

The aroma is a complimentary whiff of chili pepper, clove and black pepper with dark fruit notes of raisin and figs. Underneath their is a warming rum-like vapor with resiny evergreen notes of piney hops.

Follows the nose with piney hops, notes of chocolate, bread, raisins and figs with spicy belgian yeast notes of black pepper, clove and bannana. Chilis and cinnamon top things off and its all subtley balanced.

Medium bodied and smooth

Boozy edge but compimentary flavors. Enjoyable, but has room to improve. Probably will with age on it like its supposed to have.

interesting beer -- brewed with annaheim chilies and cinnamon. you need to give this beer a lot of time -- abv through the roof, intense flavors.

this just might be the most epic christmas seasonal ever.... the only drawback is the booziness.

pours a dark ale red with a small amber bit of carbonation, thin around the rim.

the smell is a good spicy malt mixture and the taste follows through. sweet, complex, burn on the back of the tongue from the chili. no real hop flavor to speak of, the malt blend and cinnamon and chilies speak for themselves.

a big change from last years vertical epic.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a light brown color, with a short dense off-white head that fades very slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains caramelized malts, Belgian yeast, cinnamon and chilies as advertised and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with the odd but complementary combination of the cinnamon and chilies with a mild sweetness. Then a hearty malt character and Belgian yeast breadiness comes in. the hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Flavorful, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good variation of style, it’s a good beer to drink for a while if you’re looking for something different.
