Poured vigorously from a bottle into a snifter.
A: Pours a dark chocolate, almost black in color with almost no light coming through. About a finger and a half of a cream colored frothy head, sticks around a bit, then gently recedes leaving small resinous lacing behind.
S: Nose is typical west coast IPA, but a nice toasted malt in the background is definitely unique. Big pungent notes at first, some alcohol, and then soft toffee/caramel notes as well.
T: Taste is astringent, but has a great malt backbone. The malt profile is a bit sweet almost like toffee, adds great balance.
M: Medium bodied; alcohol is the palate cleanser here, albeit small in feel, it's there at 7.4% ABV. Overall a great black IPA, nice astringency and great balance.
