Poured from a bottle into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass.
A: Pours a dark brown, nearly black (as the name implies). Massive cappuccino head, plentiful lacing. Dissipates fairly quickly, lots of large bubbles. Lots of yeast/sediment, kind of marring an otherwise beautiful appearance.
S: Subtle almost coffee-like notes behind a beautiful floral and pine bouquet. Pleasant and complex.
T: Is it an IPA? Stout? I don't know, and I don't care. It's got the depth and roasty-ness of a good stout, but obviously it's predominantly an IPA. Great hop characteristics, heavy on the pine, balanced out by sweet malt notes. Really unique, I'm definitely enjoying it!
M: Soft and dry. It's definitely got the IPA crispness, but also the smooth-creaminess of a stout. Again, balanced. Good carbonation, and it masks the alcohol well. Taste lingers pleasantly.
O: I'm impressed. I really feel like it borrows characteristics from a good stout and a great IPA, and comes together for a really unique, exciting, and delicious experience. Very good brew!

12 oz bottle received as an extra. Can't recall from whom, sorry...
Body is opaque brown with a huge frothy tan head. A little muddy, or I might have rated higher here.
Nose is crisp, clean hops, with a musty maltiness on the finish.
Flavor immediately blows away the memory of a muddy appearance. This is a crisp, clean citrusy/ piney IPA. As a big fan of both the Alchemist and Stone, I get hop character from both brewery's characteristic styles. (Can't say about Ninkasi). Malt contribution is here, but not in a big way. I expected less hops and more malt, given the style and the age of this brew, but it just isn't so.
Mouthfeel is medium, high carb, and lightly tooth-stripping.
Overall, a very nice brew. This one sat around my on-deck fridge for far too long, but was still a great contribution to a quiet Sunday afternoon.
