Poured from a 12oz bottle into a duvel cup...
A: pours a murky amber ish brown with a solid two fingers of a slightly caramel colored head... Good head retention leavs a nice sticky lacing.
S: while the beer is a bit cold I get a nice nutty caramely aroma, with a touch of piney hops and a little but of citrus hops as well... More piney then citrusy. As the beer warms I deffinatly seem to smell a bit more of tary molasses and brown sugar... A very nice nose... Lightly sweet and pleasing.
T: at first I get a nice piney blast of hops... Backed up with a nice brown sugary backbone.... The molasses I think seems to add to the hop bitterness with a nice dark taryness... The citrus hops seem to come in on the finish more... Lending a nice tropical/grapefruit hint. Deffinatly a bit of caramel in with this brew as well.
M: velvety and resinous, deffiinatley on the bitter side for a brown ale... But i feel as this was well balanced at the same time. Ends on the wet side.... Medium velvety carbonation. Really like the mouth feel.
O: a great brew... Deffinatly more of an ipa then a brown ale.... More brown then black? With a different hop profile and a more malt and sugar forward background... Deffinatly a different beer...but at the same time not that far apart. I guess just with the drastically different profiles of the stone collabs.... I think I would have been much more impressed with this of it didn't come so close in the wake of more brown then black...
But still an awesome brew... And I will drink a few of these.
