Poured from the bottle into my Bruery tulip.
Appeared a dark brown color with some amber tints when held to the light. Off-white 3 finger head that stuck for a bit.
Smelled of some nice piney/resinous hops backed by some sweet smelling sugar, honey, and molasses. Also some chocolate and roasted barley notes in the nose.
Taste was suprisingly delicious. First you are hit with some typical brown ale tastes including some brown sugar, honey, molasses, and a bit of dark chocolate. I then got almost an apple type flavor followed quickly by a nice hoppy bite. In a way, this tastes similar to some American Barleywines that I have had, though not quite as intense.
Mouthfeel was good for the style.
Overall I was suprised by this one. My expectations weren't extremely high but this turned out to be quite good.
