Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass. The beer emerges a ruddy brown color that resembles brackish water, and is topped with a creamy, frothy, smooth, ecru colored head of about two fingers in size. The retention is wonderful and there is loads of lacing that leave a wonderful, ceramic frosting on the sides if the glass.
The aroma is mostly filled with maltiness and dark fruits. Pineapple, brandy, tobacco, plums, figs, caramel, oak, a little bit of everything. Though it seems complex, the aromas do not stand out, but meld well together. Hints of hops, but nothing over the top.
Flavor profile is quite nice. Really roasted, followed by more tobacco, oak, charred wood, dark raisins, and even a touch of cranberry.
Not surprisingly, this one is full bodied. The alcohol sticks out and is obtrusive as the beer warms past cellar temperature. Not a fan of the boozy alcohol, but otherwise, a nice winter sipper. Not exactly great on an 80F December day in Florida, but a nice beer anyway.
