Poured in a 2oz taster at Chapter One in Santa Ana, Calif. Reviewed from notes. Hopefully this is a fair review with a small sample.

A- One finger white head, mediocre retention. Solid sheet of lacing. Coppery color, nice clarity.

S- Light hops, coriander and cloves, toasty malts. Kind of subtle.

T- Coriander, toasted malts again. Dark fruit notes and earthy sort of hops.

M- Light bodied, light carbonation.

O- Mediocre at best. The feel is very weak,

On tap at Local Habit in San Diego. This is supposed to be the Levitation Ale fermented with a strain of Belgian yeast. The flavors are quite subtle, but it makes for a very likeable brew and one with less of the brash arrogance of the usual Stone profile.

Dark ruby amber with a lovely cap of foam in the tall tulip. Not quite thin, but a light body with a pleasant roasty flavor. Moderately malty. Tartness is mellowed by the touch of dark caramel. Nose of roasted barley.

Bitterness comes along at the end. Just nicely hopped to balance the malt. A nice change from the earthy style of Amber Ale. Thoroughly drinkable beer made more interesting by the Belgian yeast, though the flavors are very understated. Proof that Stone has more tools than the Hop Hammer.

On tap at Stone.

A: Dark amber with a small white head.

S: Perfume-like floral aromatics with apple and pear. Bread, toasted notes, and a touch of caramel. Faint pepper-like phenols with orange and grapefruit.

T: Baked bread blends with toasted malt and evident Belgian yeast that imparts a little apple. Touch of pepper with a lower moderate bitterness. Restrained citrus. Balanced finish.

M: Medium body with upper medium carbonation.

Overall: Levitation with a Belgian twist. Surprisingly good.
