On tap at Toronado – San Diego 09/01/13
Served in a goblet style glass

A: Dark cola brown color with a slightly lighter edge. Completely opaque in the glass with a thin retaining khaki cream top that slowly slips away to a thin film leaving some sudsy ribbons and dots clinging to the glass.

S: Smells of rich dark chocolates with a bit of vanilla crème and dark fruits mixed in. I get some light charred oak presence in the nose as well although it is very mellow. Really nice aroma overall with rich chocolate character. Very light on the smoke for me.

T: Decadent rich dark chocolate meets a firm dark fruit filling of figs, plum, and raisin with some vanilla coconut crème layered in. There is a very light woodsy charcoal noted but this is not incredibly smoky by any means. The beer has a surprisingly high amount of perceived bitterness with a nice piney hop presence. The alcohol is not shy here with a warm spicy kick. Very robust with loads of chocolate flavor.

M: The mouthfeel is moderately heavy with an incredibly smooth and creamy texture at first. A high level of bitterness aids to a drying trend with some warming alcohol at the finish

D: This is a delicious Imperial Porter that drinks more like a Stout with some rich chocolate and dark fruit flavors. I didn’t get much smoke flavor which was actually kind of nice and balanced in that regard.

Stoked to get the chance at trying this one. Highly recommended.
