American Double / Imperial IPA |  10.80% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
We first released this decidedly indelicate beer in 2012, as Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our belovedly bitter Stone Ruination IPA. Stone RuinTen IPA uses the same recklessly hoppy recipe as the 2012 release; only the name has changed, as we plan to unleash this belligerently delicious hop monster upon the public annually from now on. We packed a whopping five pounds of hops into each barrel, and cranked up the ABV to stand up to the hop onslaught. The results are glorious, and we know you'll rejoice in tasting this audacious gem of hoppy splendor once again. You're welcome.

A- Clear red/orange in color with a 2 finger white head. Fades quickly leaving some decent lacing.

S- Big, dank tropical fruits (mango, grapefruit, pineapple). Sweet malts and pine also present.

T- Much like the smell. Very resinous and dank. Quite sweet and bitter to go with the huge hops. Alcohol there but well hidden. A great beer here.

M- Medium body and surprisingly smooth. Just enough bitterness to leave you wanting another sip. Low to average carbonation.

O- A palette wrecker, for sure, but so good. If you haven't tried it, do so.

Appearance: Clear pale gold glass holds a halo of white foam, no lacing. Tiny champagne bubbles slowly rise.

Smell: Mild grapefruit rind, floral whiffs of citric hops with a little sugar base.

Taste: Full hop green flavor but held in check with a cracker dry base malt. I've always felt Ruination was less hoppy than Stone IPA, this follows suit. Still, a hoppy beer by any standard, just not a bitter one sided monster. The light floral elements come out a bit, and the lighter flavor profile makes every sip enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: Dry, medium body, low carbonation, oily texture.

Overall: A wonderful beer. Showcases my favorite hop flavors (citric) with enough support to soak up the bitterness and let the fruity notes shine. I'll be looking for more; great stuff.
