Style | ABV
American Double / Imperial IPA |  10.80% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
We first released this decidedly indelicate beer in 2012, as Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our belovedly bitter Stone Ruination IPA. Stone RuinTen IPA uses the same recklessly hoppy recipe as the 2012 release; only the name has changed, as we plan to unleash this belligerently delicious hop monster upon the public annually from now on. We packed a whopping five pounds of hops into each barrel, and cranked up the ABV to stand up to the hop onslaught. The results are glorious, and we know you'll rejoice in tasting this audacious gem of hoppy splendor once again. You're welcome.

A: Poured from the bomber into a Duvel tulip. Body is hazy orangey-amber with a small, slightly off-white head. Leaves good splotches of lacing on the sides of the glass.

S: Real nice nose - I can smell the hops from a distance. Grapefruit, pineapple and orange peel. Touch of caramel malt.

T: This one brings me back to the days when I was first discovering this style - Goose Island Imperial IPA comes to mind from the recesses of my memory. . . . Tropical fruit salad and citrusy hops - grapefruit, grapefruit pith and a touch of pine needles at the back end. Heat from the ABV is noted towards the back of the sip as a spicy bite, and then is felt heading down to the belly. Lingering pine bitterness fights the ample malt profile (caramel malt, some toffee) for dominance, with the hops prevailing, but the sweeter malt putting up a surprisingly good fight.

M: Full bodied. Carbonation is light to moderate, with a nice creamy feel to it.

O: This is good stuff. Now if only they'd bring back their 10th Anniversary Ale. . . .

look: 4.75 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.75

Appearance - Light copper, fair amount of head with an aggressive pour, good amount of lacing.

Smell - Strong tropical fruit smell, also smells spicy, citrusy, and a strong kind of boozy smell.

Taste - Strong tropical fruit taste, also spicy and a bit citrusy, matches the smell quite well. Syrupy malt taste, but its light for the abv, and really balances well with the awesome hop tastes I'm getting. Nice lingering bitter aftertaste, crisp but not overpowering at all for the beer style.

Mouthfeel - Light to moderate carbonation, slight hint of alcohol but not what a beer this strong should taste/feel like, but there is a fair amount of heat in it. Lingering taste, kind of resinous. The taste really lingers with you and with this beer that's a very good thing.

Overall - This is a great beer, definitely one of my favorites, out of my favorite beer style (double ipa) I really would recommend this beer to anyone who likes strong ipas, its expensive (8.99 for a bomber) and really that detracts more from the high overall I gave it. But at the end of the day you pay for what you get and what you're getting is a top notch beer... seriously, go buy it and try it now! I promise you that you'll have no regrets.

Appearance- Everything you could want in a double IPA. Nice coloration somewhere between copper and tan.

Smell- Tropical scent with some citrus and grassiness.

Taste- This is seriously the dankest double IPA I have ever had. Ridiculous candied grapefruit and pineapple flavors with a lingering bitterness that is oh so right. Solid malt backbone that is of medium weight. Like most Stone brews, this is well balanced but simultaneously an excessive beer. Taste lingers for hours, not minutes.

Mouthfeel- Well carbonated, oily. So massively resinous, you will not be able to taste anything after drinking a glass of this stuff. Absolutely coats the mouth.
