Re review since my boss picked me up a bomber.
A: Deep brawny translucent copper in color. Two fingers stained khaki head. Excellent retention for the high alcohol. Carbonation very subdued. Lacing is moderate.
S: Big, dank juicy hoppiness erupts from the glass. Grapefruit, HUGE tropical fruit notes. Malt adds a dimension of sweetness to the experience, with added caramel and toffee notes.
T: Big rush of pine on the intro. Big layer of alcohol and malt sweetness takes over for a split second before accentuating the huge notes of citrus that follow through. The alcohol warmth enhances the citrus, giving it a sweetened flavor that carries throughout the finish. This citrus "sweetness" combines with the huge malts to lend a sweetness to the beer that is somewhat distracting. The hops can't quite escape from the malt and alcohol madness.
M: Big. The lack of carbonation lends to the full bodied feel of this beer. It's a monster, that's for sure.
O: I'm sticking with my original review. While this is good, the hops just can't overcome the insane malt and syrupy booze flavors. The result is pretty meh, considering how amazing Stone's standard and DIPA's are.

bottle date 5/14.
Poured a light copper color into a Spiegalgau glass with a 2 finger head. Carbonation bubbles from the bottom. Attractive beer.
The aroma wasn't as strong as anticipated- light vanilla, some grapefruit. Not as strong as other DIPAs.
Mouth feel: excellent. Not overdone. Carbonated but smoother than other DIPAs.
Taste: there was less grapefruit in this beer than expected in a DIPA. Very malty.
The highlight is the hoppiness which carries through to the hoppy finish which is also spicy and mildy bitter.
Overall: this beer is a hop bomb. The spiciness in the taste and finish are excellent. The fruit, usually dominant in a West Coast DIPA, is not as prominent. This beer is about hops.
