Stone's 10th Anniversary Ruination IPA pours a beautiful, hazy amber with a moderate, frothy head on top. The foam dissolves slowly to a thick sheet on the beer coating the glass with netted patterns of lace as it descends. Inside, small bubbles float lazily to the top. I'm giving this one of my rare 5's for appearance!
The aroma is loaded with hops. Orange and grapefruit citrus dominate, but some pine is also present. The smell seems to fade quickly after the beer is poured, however it's still present down to the last drop.
Each sip of this medium to full bodied beer is chewy and creamy with moderate fizzy carbonation. The flavor is bitter with lots of orange and grapefruit citrus, plus some lemon rind mixed in. In the middle sweet malt and tropical fruit (mango) feebly try to balance out this hop monster. It finishes peppery and dry with lingering citrus and pine notes when gone.
This beer is a hop lovers dream. It's loaded with hop bitterness and citrus, but I thought the mouthfeel could have been a bit more chewy. Definitely a sipper you want to share with a friend.
