A bottle from Al's. From my notes (the growler was about a month ago).
A: Golden amber, translucent with a white head. Stunning, a deceptive looker that quickly betrays its ruinous body.
S: Wow, that is one hell of a nose - hoppy with a caustic edge. Pine aromas, thick and treacly like sap, dominate the ale with a bitter, harsh finish. Harsh, normally a perjorative, is meant as a compliment - the hop intensity through the roof. There is a surprising balance to the ale, the caramel base present with stand-out aromas at times. Generally, though, this is a beautifully hoppy and bitter ale.
T: Oily and juicy, the hop bitterness is absolutely sick, numbing even. Pine at the fore, citrus, including sweet citra, following later. The bite starts off strong and seemingly grows stronger, never letting off the accelerator. Despite the intense hoppiness, the balance of the ale makes it work. Caramel is thick and syrupy, more than able to support the hops. The range of hop flavors, tropical, piney, lush, Christmas tree-like, really hits the spot. Abrasive and biting but oh so delicious.
M: A hop paradise - the bitterness feels like it is still lingering in the back of my month. A bit boozy but that isn't entirely unexpected. One of the hoppiest...
