Pours a nice creamy fluffy 1 finger head that fades slowly with some soapy lacing but not a lot, crystal clear tan auburn toasty color.
Nose is just like Ruination but kicked up a bit, lots of fresh hops, candied orange peel, light resins, a bit of grapefruit and very light hint of pineapple, and even a bit of earthy pine hops, smells like lots of bittering hops, the sweet malts bring a big backbone too, sweet candied malts with a hint of caramel and toasty.
Taste starts with the big sweet malts, candied malts, sweet nectar and a bit of toasty almost caramel but not quite. A hint of warming booze comes through with that, a clean booze though. Then plenty of candied hops, quite bitter mouth buckling bitterness but somehow balanced and not overwhelming or astringent. Candied orange peel, a bit of candied pineapple, a bit of pine and an earthy spicy chewy hop presence, a bit of resin and fresh dry hop almost oily feel. The spicy chewy hop presence builds on with the booze and bitterness and berates the tongue in wave after wave, but my tongue still seems to come back asking for more. Finish is long and somewhat dry but a little sticky, lots of long bitter hops, chewy spicy hops like I just finished chewing on a hop pellet, bit of pine and candied orange peel.
Mouth is med to fuller bod, nice carb, bit of warming booze.
Overall not bad, brings some nice hops that almost seem overbearing but somehow don't. I haven't had a super bitter DIPA in a while, so it's nice to have one again since most IPAs have moved onto tropical fruit no balance IPAs. This seemed to have a nice balance since there was so much of everything. However, not quite the summer beer I was hoping, and still nothing spectacular.
