American Double / Imperial IPA |  10.80% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
We first released this decidedly indelicate beer in 2012, as Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our belovedly bitter Stone Ruination IPA. Stone RuinTen IPA uses the same recklessly hoppy recipe as the 2012 release; only the name has changed, as we plan to unleash this belligerently delicious hop monster upon the public annually from now on. We packed a whopping five pounds of hops into each barrel, and cranked up the ABV to stand up to the hop onslaught. The results are glorious, and we know you'll rejoice in tasting this audacious gem of hoppy splendor once again. You're welcome.

I guess you've gotta try this if you see it, 10 years of ruination, it has almost been ten years that I have been drinking Stone....crazy. Real nice to look at, deep orange to amber with a dense crisp white head. Loads of lacing, but not such great retention. Smells good. You can certainly pick out the citra hops, also some pine, and fruit. Does not punch you in the nose, but fair. Well it is certainly bitter. Loads of hops, pithy bitterness, citrusy, and pine. However Stone has done a nice job of creating some balance here. Though perhaps too much crystal malt for me. Slightly thick and syrupy mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good XIPA, especially for a guy who is not a huge fan of the style.

Beautiful head on pour but did not last long, excellent hop aroma the best part for me, taste up to stone IPA standards however the alcohol comes through over powers and spoils the effect. All in all a good brew but for me I prefer the original, and you get to drink a little more if you want the alcohol.

Glad I tried it but not the one for me, too many other better options out there offering better value.

bottle date 5/14.
Poured a light copper color into a Spiegalgau glass with a 2 finger head. Carbonation bubbles from the bottom. Attractive beer.

The aroma wasn't as strong as anticipated- light vanilla, some grapefruit. Not as strong as other DIPAs.

Mouth feel: excellent. Not overdone. Carbonated but smoother than other DIPAs.

Taste: there was less grapefruit in this beer than expected in a DIPA. Very malty.
The highlight is the hoppiness which carries through to the hoppy finish which is also spicy and mildy bitter.

Overall: this beer is a hop bomb. The spiciness in the taste and finish are excellent. The fruit, usually dominant in a West Coast DIPA, is not as prominent. This beer is about hops.
