Presentation: Just a phenomenal looking eye-catching bottle in the traditional Stone gargoyle-themed fashion with all graphics and text painted on. Front states “2013”, “A stage dive into a mosh pit of hops”, gives ABV info, and a bit of brewery info. Side states “Annual Release” and gives the Stone drink fresh web info. Back label gives web info, a great description, and back story on the beer. Drink by date 9/5/2013 printed on the bottle.
Appearance: Aggressively poured from it 22oz Bomber into a 16oz snifter leading to a 3 finger golden cream colored head of a light airy density atop a clear dark copper orange color beer. Head retention was 4min 42sec before finally fading to a frothy thick coating and ring with very good lacing.
Smell/Aroma: Smells of deep grapefruit citrus with a bit of sweet orange, a large amount of piney resin hops, and a nice grassy aroma.
Flavor/Taste: Wow! Holy HOPS! The deep grapefruit and sweet orange citrus hops hit hard on the front before turning piney/resin at mid point along with a bit of caramel malt that is quickly subdued by the strong piney/resin hop finish and aftertaste. A bit of alcohol heat to this as well. Great!
MouthFeel/Drinkability: Medium bodied and medium carbonation with a smooth mouthfeel. Very easy drinking especially for any hophead!
Overall/Comments: Another great beer by Stone! This beer is a hophead's dream. RuinTen is hop intensive and doesn't try to hide it! A must try! Classified as an American Double/Imperial IPA @ 10.8% ABV. Consumed 6/22/2013
