American Double / Imperial IPA |  10.80% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
We first released this decidedly indelicate beer in 2012, as Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our belovedly bitter Stone Ruination IPA. Stone RuinTen IPA uses the same recklessly hoppy recipe as the 2012 release; only the name has changed, as we plan to unleash this belligerently delicious hop monster upon the public annually from now on. We packed a whopping five pounds of hops into each barrel, and cranked up the ABV to stand up to the hop onslaught. The results are glorious, and we know you'll rejoice in tasting this audacious gem of hoppy splendor once again. You're welcome.

Had on-tap at Pinocchio's Pizza in Media, PA. Reviewing from notes jotted on a napkin, because I am THAT guy.

A: I partly expected this to be a little more murky, but I was presented with a glass full of a pristine honey-tinted amber hue topped off by an impressive amount of off-white lacing that left obscene lacing down the glass, which is an expected trademark of stupidly hop-heavy ales. Not what I predicted, but lovely to say the least.

S: As expected, an overwhelming hop aroma that emits some complex fruitiness. Grapefruit leading the way with oranges, lemons, apricots, hints of peach, and pineapple partnering in. A light touch of grass or pine, and little to no malt.

T: Red grapefruit upfront, with some orange peel and fresh apricot. Underneath the juicy characteristics is a very Earthy profile: dank grass and pine that is pungent enough to scare off unworthy drinkers. Malts are understated, but present and add a faint candy-like sweetness. Alcohol? Where?

M: Medium-to-full body, seeming more full than medium. Super smooth, with a dash of creaminess that teases the mouth and begs for the next gulp. Incredible drinkability for something nearing 11% ABV. There's absolutly ZERO alcohol presence.

O: Surprise, surprise, surprise... Stone has done it again. An absolutely magnificent beer. An ode to the glory of the hops and definitely not for the faint of heart. RuinTen is a beast that demands respect and earns it with relative ease in just a few sips. A mandatory must-try for hopheads. I'm dying to try this bottled, as well.

From a 22 oz bottle into a pilsner glass. The date on the bottle is 6/9/14.

A: gold color with a red hue. Thin head at the top with lots of lacing that hang in the glass all the way until the end.

S: all citrus. Orange and lemon are the primary aromas.

T: pure hops with citrus notes at the last moment

M: coats the mouth with heavy bitterness. Very very smooth and easy drinking for the level of bitterness.

O: sadly this is only a yearly release. One I wish I could get more often. The beer hops to its reputation. It's an absolute hop animal.

From my Stolzle(umlat on the o) short tulip
Color of Jack Daniels on the rocks with a splash of water, off-white foam
Smells like it tastes...chocolate covered orange peel , cantaloupe and the bitter bile taste in the back of your throat when you blow chow...
Balanced tween hops and malt...some sweetness to temper
Smooth mouth-feel after the swallow
Overall, for a one time shot, I liked it but if the next year's tastes like this -No dice!

Not beautiful looking but otherwise a great beer.As with most Stone IPAs, scent is piney and grassy, but I find this one a bit more restrained. Taste is similar with a touch of sweet maltiness. What makes this beer a cut above most of the rest is the creamy mouthfeell that seems unusual for IPAs. This is a fantastic beer and I'm consistently impressed with Stone and their piney versions of this style.
