American Double / Imperial IPA |  10.80% ABV

Availability: Summer

Notes/Commercial Description:
We first released this decidedly indelicate beer in 2012, as Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our belovedly bitter Stone Ruination IPA. Stone RuinTen IPA uses the same recklessly hoppy recipe as the 2012 release; only the name has changed, as we plan to unleash this belligerently delicious hop monster upon the public annually from now on. We packed a whopping five pounds of hops into each barrel, and cranked up the ABV to stand up to the hop onslaught. The results are glorious, and we know you'll rejoice in tasting this audacious gem of hoppy splendor once again. You're welcome.

A: Dark copper pour with a 1 finger head. Lacing is extremely good as the beer is consumed. Beer is extremely clear and crisp.

S: Smell is of pine and citrus, as well as some deep bread characteristics. Lots of hops, obviously. Very bitter.

T: Taste is extremely bitter. Again, very piney, but like other Stone IPAs, it has a very strong malt profile. Backs up the bitterness nicely.

M: Thick, sharp, gives a good bite from the bitter.

Somehow this is my first stone beer, and Im glad to say it's off to a good start. Poured out of bottle a copper/amber color, somewhat cloudy, with minimal foam.

Smells of orange zest, grapefruit, pine.

Taste of orange hit you on the way in, followed by a smack of hops. Stone has really found a good balance of these tastes to make them bold, but not overwhelming.

Overall a very solid beer, hoping to continue trying more Stone beers.

Stone RuinTen IPA (Formerly 10th anniversary Ruination)

200th review! Glad it was a worthy brew for it!

Look - Poured into two Dogfish Head IPA glasses as a bottle share this poured a clear filtered copper with an amber hue. Sports a full foamy head that dissipates at a medium pace, retains some, and leaves chunks and rings of lacing. Great looking brew.

Smell - Extraordinarily pungent bitter hops similar to the oniony Summit ones used in some of the West Coast brews I have tried, but there are definitely more than just that particular flavor. Deep citrus resin behind that. Slight malt tones provides the higher ABV.

Taste - Malt is there in a nice wave with some sweetness, then hops ride in super bitter nice blasty IBU as well as an alcohol kick, then they slowly ride out but wreck the palate on the way out.

Mouthfeel - Sits slightly dry and not overly boozy, which is extremely well done. Remarkably drinkable. More light-bodied than medium-bodied. Again, extremely well done here.

Overall - What a fantastic brew from Stone, we went and picked up another one the next day. Ballsy and bitter but well blended with a touch of sweet, an absolute decimation of the palate.

A- Clear amber body with a nice white head that dissipates to a small foam cap. Orange when held up to light.

A- Piney citrus aroma. Slight boozy notes.

T- Super citrus grapefruit with a nice caramel malt backing. Hop flavor throughout with a pleasant bitterness. Alcohol is definitely present and provides a bit of warmth.

M- Medium full body with moderate carbonation. There is a bite, but I think that is a combination of the carbonation, hops, and booziness. Smooth going down prior to the bite.

D- Quite enjoyable, but boozey. These will put you down quickly, but it will be enjoyable!

A: a nice medium toned brew. Pretty

S: piney, citrus, malty on the end

T: Nice. It's not as hoppy as advertised but distinctly bold, flavorful, and smooth. Big taste early, satisfying, no bitter aftertaste.

M: Medium. very smooth. much taste without a great deal of repercussion.

O: One of the best things a beer can do is hide its potency. this beer has great flavor, very high alcohol content, and goes down very, very smooth. My buds and I look for a drinkable, hoppy, high alcohol brew. This beer is that. This beer is hoppy, very powerful, very drinkable, and damn smooth for a 10.8!
