Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: ehammond1 on 06-14-2012

We first released this decidedly indelicate beer in 2012, as Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our belovedly bitter Stone Ruination IPA. Stone RuinTen IPA uses the same recklessly hoppy recipe as the 2012 release; only the name has changed, as we plan to unleash this belligerently delicious hop monster upon the public annually from now on. We packed a whopping five pounds of hops into each barrel, and cranked up the ABV to stand up to the hop onslaught. The results are glorious, and we know you'll rejoice in tasting this audacious gem of hoppy splendor once again. You're welcome.

RuinTen pours a deep gold with a fluffy whit head. Retention is good and lacing is top notch.

The nose is hop heavy, as expected. Light, fruity hops come jumping out with notes of pineapple and orange. There's a slight malty sweetness and a decent alcohol presence. The 110 IBUs and 10.80% ABV are both well represented.

The taste is slightly sweet as it enters the mouth. Tons of fruity hops say hello as a malt backbone tries to balance them all out. It finishes awfully bitter, which becomes more noticeable as the beer warms.

The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a solid alcohol presence and a very bitter finish.

Overall, this Double IPA is a fine example of the style and a worthy beer to celebrate Stone's milestone.

Poured from the bottle an amber-orange with two fingers of off-white head and a generous amount of lacing left behind.

Big hoppy aroma of grapefruit, tropical fruit, and pineapple along with sweet caramel malts.

The taste did not disappoint. Big, bitter, and hoppy with the grapefruit and pineapple. Well-balanced with the caramel malts. The nearly-11% abv smacks you right in the kisser. Too much, really.

Medium bodied and slick with a moderate carbonation.

This was a good beer to take your time and enjoy.

Pours a clear amber color with a nice two finger cream colored head. Leaves plenty of sticky lace behind.

Aroma is nice sweet malts packed with lots of hops tropical fruits, hints of pine with some floral mixed in for good measure.

Taste is sweet malts loaded with hops signature stone flavors nice sticky hops every where.

Mouthfeel is medium with pretty smooth carbonation for an IPA.

Overall good IPA from Stone big surprise, might be bit over hyped but doesn't disappoint.

Aroma: Pine, grapefruits, sour fruits.

Taste: Grapefruit (obviously), sweet versions of the citrus fruits, some caramel, bitterness to the extreme.

Overall: Tasty stuff, good with I can assure you that, very delicious. A sipper though, Stone still impresses me.

Solid gold with a thick, tight bubbled head. Aroma is thick with bright lemon, lime, and sugary grapefruit over fresh pine needles and flowery hops. A slight cookie sweetness is present, but it's mostly astringently hoppy with a whiff of alcohol. Seriously hop-forward flavor backed by a pale malt sweetness. Grapefruit, pine resin bitterness, pineapple, tangerine, and melon. Oooo tasty...and not too sweet at all, which I didn't expect. Aggressive, crisp, and surprisingly not too strong feeling either. I mean, it feels "big," but I enjoy it, and I should know to trust Stone with hoppy beers after years of proof. I remember drinking Ruination for the first time, now it almost seems tame in relation to what DIPAs have evolved to be, but this sort of brings back that "holy shit that's hoppy" feeling.
